The Beauty of Face Time

I love it when the family calls on FaceTime or SKYPE. Makes them seem so much closer.

I should crop me out of this one but I took this photo by pressing the home button and the top button.

Granddaughter Anna was speaking with me via a device as her Mom looks on.

The light on her face seemed so nice.

Communication Via Photographs from Readers

Today’s post features GUEST Bloggers Photographs from different friends who follow my blog

One of the most satisfying aspects of keeping a blog is the response from readers.

The likes, the comments and the emails.  The emails and messages with photos attached are always a pleasure to receive.

Some will say they saw something and they knew I would have photographed it.

From Guest Blogger Bobbie in Kansas says  “South Lake Park, Overland Park, Kansas.  I noticed it driving to work the other morning and thought it was a swan mixed up with the geese, but could not stop as I had to be in the hospital, but was happy to see them yesterday on the way home.  It has red eyes, and light colored feet and bill. The other geese were very protective and I could not get close.”

From Arleen

“You are rubbing off on me–I sat down to dinner a couple of weeks ago and caught a pretty reflection in my wine glass. I of course thought “If Ruth were here, she’d be pulling out her camera and taking a picture!” So, I did it for you! : ) Let me know what you think! I used one with a flash, one without.”                            Flash or no flash?

Hot Time, Cell Phones in the City

Street photography isn’t my thing.  Funny to say that after posting loads of NYC city street photos the last week but I mean being a true street photographer is not my genre.  Photographing people unaware hasn’t really appealed to me and I felt awkward or intrusive. But in an hours time walking down Fifth Avenue I took 165 photos of people on their cell phones.  A lot of them while crossing the street without looking.  It wasn’t a plan and I made a little movie of the photos but the end result was monotonous and boring.  Even though I got it down to a minute thirty three seconds it was a snoozer.  You can determine if the ones I have chosen to illustrate my experience produce boredom in the viewer.

In a couple of the photos you can see three or four people on phones at once.

This is not going to be an ongoing effort to capture people using technology in public.  The good thing is it allowed me to get more comfortable on the sidewalk photographing people.  Of course, it wasn’t a fair playing field as they were definitely distracted and ignoring me which is how I was able to lift the camera to my eye and take their picture.

How have cell phones affected the way we live?  Our human interaction?

There are posters around the city that say HEADS UP showing a guy on his cell phone and a vehicle turning into the crosswalk.

Pay Phone Missing in Short North- Guest Blog

My daughter Laura sent me this photo from her iPhone to my iPhone. She was the one who turned 21 in the Weekly Photo Challenge: fleeting moment post. She’ll be 29 in August.

She and her husband James were walking in Short North, going to Jeni’s Splendid Ice Cream Shop  (she had a scoop of grapefruit and a scoop of lemon and blueberries frozen yogurt, cause she told me when I asked.

“James had his usual”     Laura said and I knew what it was but had to get the official name of the flavor on Jeni’s website

The Buckeye State
“Our version of Ohio’s favorite confection. Rich and salty peanut butter yields to the crunch of exceptional dark chocolate for perfect balance. Total comfort for Buckeyes and Buckeyes at heart.”

Anyway, I digress.  This is about the pay phone and the missing pay phone.

I remember the days of pay phones and phone booths, a pile of change.

She saw this and I bet she thought, my mom would photograph this!   I have photographed and posted a similar scene in Wisconsin in 2009.

It’s fun to receive photos from family and friends.  Thanks Laura.

CMU Crosswalk- Autumn Afternoon

When Steve drives I have so much fun taking pictures. It was magnificent light through the colored leaves, the students crossing Forbes Ave.  We were driving down Morewood and there was the sinking sun making the leaves vibrant. Too bad the windshield wasn’t clean!

Great to be the passenger

A perfect October afternoon. If only this weather could stay!

Urban Communication

Gangwish Street in Bloomfield.

Wish I could have entered this shot in the Communication show.

I have 3 photos in Communication  show/1650 Gallery, 1650 Echo Park Avenue in Los Angeles until August 29th. You can see the Croatian sign outside a church in Porec(the 8th photo down) and the rest can be seen here.)Hiriing Now- Ritter’s sign and No Cardboard Dumpster. Today’s post would  have been a great addition to the show.  Took it yesterday on way home from school.

Washington Parting Shot

Mary suggested this one. The cherry with a tiny leaf still attached on it. Farewell Washington.  We live so far apart and it isn’t an easy trip to make often.  We miss David but feel fortunate to had such a loving and happy relaxed time together.  When you tell someone you are just back from Washington they ask if you made it to the exhibit at the Corcoran and then you have to explain it is Washington STATE.  Washington head silhouettes on all the road signs.  I will have to research the history of how the state got named.

Washington cherry on Mac.

Now it is computer and phone communication from WA to PA and NYC.
