4 Fireplaces at the Red Light on Fifth Ave and Kirkpatrick Street
Taken with the iPhone. Through my dirty windshield. I was at the end of Birmingham Bridge ready to go up the hill onto Kirkpatrick Street to Centre.
Not ideal conditions but there were those four fireplace openings staring at me as I sat and watched the cars come down Kirkpatrick Street.
Different from my daily route, it was my old route from last year’s school but I’d gotten my hair cut on Carson Street and was headed home.
You might remember Jurassic Pittsburgh from April 2012 if you ‘ve been following for awhile. I took that shot of the dinosaur-like demolition machine on the way to my former school. Added it here at the end cause who has time to back and look. But this is the result of the demolition.

Alien Under Toadstool, Fairy Godmother, too
This weekend I watched Maura (almost 4) while her family went to a swim meet with her brothers and sister. She saw me outside and asked, “Granma, Why are you in the bushes?” When she came over to see what I was doing, she said she liked the Fairy Godmother. One shot of each on the iPhone and then she and I played. I’d been sorting toys in the playroom. Saw the toadstool and went and got the two figurines.
Today’s photos? Just for fun. The fungus was enormous. And I had just been reading an article telling of the two cousins Frances and Elsie photographs with the Cottlingley Fairies. (1917)

Camera Flash Must Have Awakened This Doll
Last week when I was in Columbus visiting the family, I noticed my youngest granddaughter Maura’s baby dolls all lined up on the ottoman in the family room.
There wasn’t much available light and the auto flash went off on the iPhone as I shot the picture.
It wasn’t until I looked on the screen, that I noticed the middle doll’s expression on her face! I ‘d just been trying to capture the tidy line-up of little doll bodies. 
Stink Bug at the Gas Station Trying to Hitch a Ride
I was filling up the tank and a stink bug started crawling up the car window. Caught his climb with the iPhone and the reflection of the parked car and building make for an interesting perspective. At least to me. He is definitely a bit soft on the focus but I still liked the composition. Plus he looks about the size of the other car! BIG!
Pay Phone Missing in Short North- Guest Blog
My daughter Laura sent me this photo from her iPhone to my iPhone. She was the one who turned 21 in the Weekly Photo Challenge: fleeting moment post. She’ll be 29 in August.
She and her husband James were walking in Short North, going to Jeni’s Splendid Ice Cream Shop (she had a scoop of grapefruit and a scoop of lemon and blueberries frozen yogurt, cause she told me when I asked.
“James had his usual” Laura said and I knew what it was but had to get the official name of the flavor on Jeni’s website
The Buckeye State “Our version of Ohio’s favorite confection. Rich and salty peanut butter yields to the crunch of exceptional dark chocolate for perfect balance. Total comfort for Buckeyes and Buckeyes at heart.”Anyway, I digress. This is about the pay phone and the missing pay phone.
I remember the days of pay phones and phone booths, a pile of change.
She saw this and I bet she thought, my mom would photograph this! I have photographed and posted a similar scene in Wisconsin in 2009.

Jack Runs to First Base AND Guest Blogs
This is Jack. You might remember him as Superman just a few months ago. The red cape is folded up and put away these days. He’s headed for Kindergarten in the fall. How quickly they grow up.
Photo one is Wednesday night T-Ball game between the Mets and the Yankees. Shooting into the sun.

Photo two- Jack set up the sock monkeys for a photo in his dad’s chair.
He took it with the iPhone with no help from me. He told me “they smiled real good”. The kids see me photographing and it is something they want to do. He took three shots.

It’s summer vacation and I’ve a bit more time on my hands. Have a plan to try some new recipes and what better way than to experiment with fellow bloggers posts of beautiful and delicious dishes.
And my daughter-in-law’s kitchen makes me feel like I’m on a cooking show! Six burner stove and all.
When I forwarded her the recipe for Roasted Chicken Stuffed with Citrus she agreed it would be good for dinner and we had all the ingredients, including fresh tarragon from her garden. You can get the recipe at Rufus Food and Spirits Guide and see a great looking photo of Greg’s Roast Chicken. I am already behind as yesterday Katherine posted a Blue Crab Dip recipe and today it is stuffed zucchini. I can’t keep up!
And a nod to Chicago John as I attempted to make the garlic cloves fall onto my keyboard but was unsuccessful! (see his posts of berries and an earlier one of peas at his blog From the Bartolini Kitchens ) Watch for a future post as I make homemade pasta for the first time.
Food photography is a challenge unless I’m just shooting what I’m eating. When I try to set something up, think too much about it and what I am trying to accomplish, it’s stressful.
People as subjects seem easier than assembled ingredients.
By the way the aroma alone is worth the cooking effort for this recipe.

Korean BBQ at Kim’s Restaurant in North Philly- Guest Post
You know how happy I am to hear from my grown up kids.
They’re busy with their lives (and families of their own) but when the little ding sounds on the phone, I am like Pavlov’s dog and I salivate with expectation to see what tasty morsel they have sent over the net. I love the updates, the communication, the pics.
When Mark was on business in Philadelphia last week, he met up with his high school friend, Prem, and the two of them enjoyed an authentic Korean BBQ at Kim’s. Mark said it was delicious.
Here is what he sent over the phone.
I enjoyed seeing what they are eating and I like the one he took of himself and his friend at the table.
