Hat Cleaning
When was the last time you took a hat to be cleaned? Another shot from downtown Roanoke.
My son Mark spotted this signage across the street from the Weiner Stand. Unfortunately there were cars parked in front of the establishment so couldn’t get the whole storefront. Just made me wonder when the neon sign for Hat Cleaning was installed. Thanks Mark for pointing this one out for the blog post. I guess I could have included it in yesterday’s Downtown Roanoke slideshow but I think it can stand alone.
My father wore a hat. Mark has one of his grandfather’s hats his home office.
I think men in hats look distinguished. My cousin Jim likes hats. He liked the post of Meyer the Hatter in NOLA.
Maybe the sign is for women’s hats to be cleaned as well. I shouldn’t assume it’s for men’s hats.
Not Sure How Long it is….
Pulled over to capture this sign.
Everybody Loves Italian Men
Strip District shopping on Saturday AM I finally saw the sign R told me about a few weeks ago. In fact, I parked right in front of it.
After I loaded up the car and got into the driver’s seat to pull out of the parking space, there were two women responding to the sign! More difficult to read the sign at that angle but I thought the addition of the women going in really added to the scene.

What About a Billy Burger?
This sign makes me want one! (From the archives. )
Driving to Spokane airport in the early morning(July 2006) from Okanogan, WA after visiting our brother David. This is in Wilbur, WA. Unfortunately Billy Burgers was closed when we drove by. I stopped and took just one shot of their sign.
I know I said I’d be back to “real time” blogposts starting today but the back-to-school has taken more energy and effort than I realized. Soon. Have to find a rhythm and stride. Keep or Pitch on unintentional hiatus as well, just couldn’t think about throwing anything out right now.
I read here that Billy Burgers has an extensive collection of salt and pepper shakers. Somee cool photos to shoot. And there are several crop circles in the area! I called Billy Burgers up on the phone just now and the phone rang a bit and I was worried they weren’t there-then a nice young man answered so I can report they are definitely open for business. Also, the lights that are out on the other poster’s photo have been replaced and are working great. Thanks for the good information. Here’s the address if you go. The Urbanspoon review is all positive, too. There’s a map of all Washington State Burger Joints! WOW.

Surely apartments now but I loved the sign with the morning light on the way to school. Centre Ave at Chauncey.
Urban Communication
I have 3 photos in Communication show/1650 Gallery, 1650 Echo Park Avenue in Los Angeles until August 29th. You can see the Croatian sign outside a church in Porec(the 8th photo down) and the rest can be seen here.)Hiriing Now- Ritter’s sign and No Cardboard Dumpster. Today’s post would have been a great addition to the show. Took it yesterday on way home from school.
Looking for Signs
A few years ago I wrote a poem with this title. And after the rainstorm I was stopped on Carson Street, traveling west. Before Station Square. The intersection under the trains. Looked up and saw this unusual sign. Seemed different from regular graffiti. Wondered about the person who got up there and wrote it and for whom did they write this short message? It’s how I feel sometimes, driving around. Trying to remember everything I am supposed to do. Feeling distracted. The retaining wall is dark with rainwater.
