  1. Many years ago when we lived on Rosemoor Street, I told a neighbor (she wasn’t from Pittsburgh obviously) that I was going in to redd up. Linda – the neighbor – said, “Toni, sometimes I just can’t understand you!” I was surprised because I thought I was very clear in my speaking — guess not!!! Then we discussed the old pop/soda, gum band/rubber band/, etc., etc. I’m sure yinz all know those! Still can’t get Mike to stop saying – yinz. It has some ethnic origin – can’t remember what, though.

  2. Anywhere you go people are passionate about their regional phrases. In Milwaukee, someone asked if I knew where the “time machine” was. I thought they were crazy. They were saying Tyme machine, like a bank. Also, they call water fountains “bubblers”

  3. Haven’t redd up in a long time. I still can’t get over how total strangers will ask me if I’m from Pittsburgh. They tell me it is the flow of my voice that gives my birthplace away. I do remember the first time I asked my husband to get me a gum band. Yinz figure it out for me.

  4. Hahaha….I don’t think I understood any of the above comments!! But I liked the photo, Ruthie!

Hope writing a comment today is not a major hassle.....I appreciate hearing from you when you have a minute.
