I’d been counting china plates in the dining room, stacked them neatly and proceeded to drop a pillar candle on top of the stack, breaking the first plate. Haviland. TheRealSharon’s blogpost today reminded me of the Weekly Photo Challenge:Broken.
I pulled the broken plate out of the box I’d put it in, and set it on the table on the porch. Added the silver and glass and napkin to complete the photo.

A couple of days ago I was moving things around in my dining room and dropped a pillar candle on top of the stack of plates. The top one broke.
I had it in a box, thinking of a mosaic artist who might use the pieces, so yesterday I pulled it out when I saw the title of the photo challenge.

The fact that my name is mentioned alongside others that are such great photographers is just crazy….their ideas were so clever and creative and I love the way you set the plate on the table like you would a regular, unbroken plate….such beauty in the broken….

So many things are “broken” in our world: the economy, bones, hearts and even plates. Some things can be mended and somethings can’t without much difficulty. However, memories can be lost but never “broken”. The many meals you and this beautiful plate shared with loved ones and friends over the years can never be “broken”. What a beautiful photo that says so much about us when we step back and think deep thoughts. Thanks for sharing it.
