The lacy leaves in the three photos (above) were not to be eaten….by humans, that is.
And Laura took this last shot (below) on my phone as she was putting James’ lunch salad together.
A cicada, expired.
Don’t think he was the leaf eater though.

What a coincidence! I picked a cherry tomato this evening and a cicada “shell” was stuck to it. Don’t have a clue to help determine what’s eating your garden. As you know, I’ve got a zucchini blossom-eating bunny and the ever-present tomato-thieving squirrel to deal with. When the insects start dining, I’m hanging up my garden shears for good.
John I started thinking about cicada quiche or something – I found 20 recipes with bugs in them http://time.com/3830167/eating-bugs-insects-recipes/ and some gourmet restaurants cook with them – The Black Ant in NYC. Rodents be gone!
I’ve an adventurous palate, Ruth, but I draw the line at bugs. Ew!
I know. Me, either
What an ugly bug! the culprit will most likely be very hungry caterpillars!
Those insects have big appetites!
Now that is a scary post – but, I liked it.
Now that’s a fresh salad!
Did you find the culprit?
Just speculation. No 😀
