The Lighthouse Keepers House
“At the top, the original, first order Fresnel lens still serves the beacon, but today is lit by a 1000 watt bulb, and maintained by the museum and volunteers. The St. Augustine lens consists of 370 hand-cut glass prisms arranged in a beehive shape towering twelve feet tall and six feet in diameter.”
Our selfie in the mirror with the lighthouse.
219 stairs to the top on your own power. We walked up one flight and went back down.
We could barely lift up this oil bucket and it was empty. I can’t imagine carrying it filled up all 219 stairs every night.
Looks like an interesting outing Ruth. I like the selfie in the mirror 🙂
That was fun, thanks for your visit and comment Rainee. It was a beautiful day.
Nice pictures!
Thank you for your positive comments, Toni.
That is a beautiful well preserved building.
Thanks for the tour! That staircase photo is outstanding!!
Beautiful lighthouse. Great photos, Ruth. 🙂
Thanks Sylvia. It was a lovely day.
What a fascinating place to visit, how could you resist climbing up?
My friend and I started to climb but heights aren’t comfort zone.
Thanks for sharing this lighthouse. How unusual with the curvy stripe. I find them fascinating 🙂
Those stairs are something else! It’s fascinating to see what was “normal” back in the day – and interesting to speculate how future generations will look back on us…
Thinking about the building of the stairs. AND lighthouse is mind boggling
