A gallery of wedding cakes with bows, words, flowers, birds and leaves
for the Weekly Photo Challenge: Atop
This one was featured at the NYTimes Your One-of-a-Kind Cake Toppers Slide Show
My grandparents Kay and Matt Walsh were married on Valentine’s Day in 1942 and this cute couple adorned their cake. Within a few months my grandfather, who owned Jimmy Ryan’s Dixieland Jazz Club on West 54th Street, was in uniform and heading overseas. These little bisque lovebirds made an appearance at each of their four daughters’ weddings and the third generation of granddaughters continued the tradition. I’ve always thought the groom looked like a dapper New Yorker, like my grandfather. My husband, Joel, and I were delighted that it was present at our own Valentine’s Day wedding in 2010.

Lovely post Ruth 🙂
Thank you, Rainee. ❤
Atop wedding cakes was an awesome idea. Makes everyone smile. Marti and Ilde still have the topper on display.
I’ll edit to spell her name correctly. Thanks Sue
I am a big fan of wedding cake – these cake decorations are all lovely. Eating is the best part, though!
Yes, the eating is the best.
What an enchanting idea for ” a top!” Great selection!!!
Thanks Erica

So many beautiful wedding cakes with so many lovely toppers! Great choice for atop, Ruth!
Lovely 🙂

I’d like a slice! Thanks Marion
I love the unusual tops on these wedding cakes Ruth.

This one surprised me. I did not get it at first glance. I looked at the first photo and thought hey I know this couple and the cake and then again hey I know this next couple and this next cake too and then so on and so forth. Most of all I liked the tradition started by the families of Kay and Matt Walsh using their topper. Your phoytos are so enticing. I really need something sweet now.
a sweet selection 🙂
What a glamorous collection for the atop! Sweet memeries 🙂
What a beautiful post, Ruth! 🙂 🙂 Wishing you a great week!
So many stunning cakes! My favorite topper is the black people/animal silhouettes.
WOnderful reply to the challenge, Ruth. Aren’t those tops — and their cakes – creative? I’ve messed up the frosting of enough cupcakes to know that cake decorating is not something I should even consider.
I took a cake decorating class when Laura was a baby and am no better at it now. Thanks John
Beautiful and yum!
Thank you Hadassa
