ST. MARTIN’S DAY in Schoenberg-Berlin

 

St. Martin’s Day

at 5:00 PM -St. Matthias Church in Schoenberg neighborhood, Berlin. ( Sunset was at 4:20)

I saw the announcement on Sunday

The church bells rang out for more than 5 minutes.

First there was a little play telling the story of St. Martin and singing hymns about St. Martin.

517C8677-94AA-478C-9F78-076D68270E94THE congregation filled with children went outside to follow St.Martin riding on the horse. A companion horse trotted behind. The children carried paper lanterns, some with candles but many with tiny LED or flashlight or tealights inside.  More singing and walking in the procession to Winterfeld Platz.

  1. Ceromonial peace and beauty. Must be a an age old religious tradition. Obviously St. Martin is significant. I do not know of him. I need to read more. Learning as I go due to your photos. Thanks Ruth.
