Flavor Preferences. What do you like to taste? Is there a flavor you avoid or don’t like?
Is there a difference between a flavor and a taste?
Where do our preferences come from?
Who are the flavorists who add the flavors to what we consume? I’m not even getting into natural vs. artificial flavors.
People within the same family prefer different flavors. How they taste.
Some individuals detest licorice. Others love it. Cilantro? Spices? Peppermint?
If a family gets ice cream cones does everyone choose the same flavor?
Varieties of flavored waters, drinks and seltzers are big sellers.
Wikipedia -“Of the three chemical senses, smell is the main determinant of a food item’s flavor. Five basic tastes – sweet, sour, bitter, salty and umami (savory) are universally recognized”
I regret not purchasing this particular drink flavor- I’d really like to taste it (seen at Thanksgiving where sold at the Gourmet Garage NYC). Seeing the photo in my phone reminded me I didn’t taste it. Thinking about rhubarb makes me salivate a bit(yep, I said that). My mouth water. I like rhubarb. The tartness. Next trip, I’m buying it!
I’m sure there are people who don’t like Vanilla. Chocolate. Strawberry. Garlic, Ginger. Cinnamon.

Interesting! Different strokes for different folks.
As long as I don’t taste mustard, goat cheese or banana I’m happy!
Okay, so if you want a different taste try peanut soup. I ate it in a diner in New Market VA. It was a local faire and I had to try it. I have never seen it anywhere again.
Hi Ruth! Thanks for the mention of CandyStore .com! I’m personally finding that as I get older I like more of the savory – umami – and less of the sweet, berry flavors. There’s a green tea flavored ice cream I’ve been getting into, and my mom loves the Earl Gray flavor. ~ Clair
Oh so nice to hear from you, Clair. Those ice creams sound delicious.
Licorice: like (both black and red)
Cilantro: STRONGLY dislike
Spices: in moderation
Peppermint: okay, but I prefer interment
Vanilla: yum
Chocolate: delish
Strawberry: fresh, absolutely. Ice cream, is okay. Flavored items, usually not.
Garlic: in very SMALL doses
Ginger: also in small doses
Cinnamon: again in small doses
Stef thanks for responding to this post on flavors. After peppermint what is interment? Xxoo
Sorry – that was supposed to be “wintermint”. Darn auto correct.
Ahhh, that pesky auto correct. 😀
I rarely drink fizzy sweet things but if I do its elderflower. The nicest flavour ice cream I’ve had outside of Italy was chilli and lime!
Never saw elderflower flavor and that ice cream sounds interesting. Mmmmm
