Memorial Day Holiday Weekend Guest Blog

I helped my friend Debbie make these memorial flowers to honor her father’s memory as they celebrate his life Sunday May 27th.

I invited her to write the accompanying story.

Memorial Day Weekend Guest Post

by Debbie Beozzo

“My dad, Robert Simon Hinkle ,  was a big supporter of the Veterans Paper Poppies sold on Memorial Day to raise money for Veterans. I never see one that I don’t recall us marching in the West Hazleton, PA Memorial Day parade in the 1960s. Dad with the local Veterans’ group wearing their uniforms, or any part that still fit them, and me with my Girl Scout Troop 244. The parade would conclude in the same cemetery, where this year we will hold of celebration of his life. A December 15 , 2017, car accident and snowstorm on the way to his service, stopped our family from attending. As I prepared for this memorial gathering, I recalled dad’s love of the poppies and decided it might be fitting to distribute flowers made from Dad’s jeans and shirt.”
