1916 Winter Storm Durand Illinois

From my Grandmothers’s Album. More than 100 years ago.

These winter photos look similar to posts I’ve seen the last few days. No hand pump for water these days. But the snow looks familiar.

  1. Beautiful pictures, makes me think about how hard they worked trying to remove all that snow 100 years ago.

  2. Cool(cold) photos. I can’t imagine how freezing cold it must have been…no central heat. I’m freezing just thinking about it!

  3. Great photos. We envy you for the snow. Your grandmother’s pictures really radiate the cold well. We lived for quite a while in Arctic Scandinavia and we need real snow and lots of it and this clear cold you get in temperatures under minus 25 C (-13 F).
    Thanks for sharing.
    Keep well

      • Well, it’s only a question of clothing. But it’s great. You perceive in a total different way first of all because there are no mini-waterdrops in the air any more and then there usually is a mirror-like border between the cold and the warmer air where you see reflections like fata morganas or 4 suns etc.
        Enjoy the winter

  4. For all the “progress” that is made through the ages, it’s remarkable how similar nature (and people) remain.

Thanks for your visit. It's always good to hear you stopped by.
