Einkorn Sourdough Loaf

What is Einkorn you might ask. (click for answers to FAQ)

“Einkorn (Triticum monococcum) is one of the world’s oldest cultivated wheats(10,000 years ago) known for its nutty flavor, high protein, and nutritional value, containing more carotenoids, B vitamins, and minerals than modern wheat”

It was delicious.
Even better toasted with Italian Butter and jam.
My $29.95 cast iron Bread oven from Aldi works perfectly
Or You can get a Le Creuset one for about $300.

  1. I lived in Idaho almost 20 years and never heard of this. Sounds great. Is making bread a complicated process? Yeast and rising and all that? Dc

    • A friend at exercise class gave me sourdough starts in a glass jar. You feed it flour and water and you use it to get the bread to rise. I watched a couple videos and got a book from the library. You have to tend it but it’s not difficult.

  2. I’ve made bread for many years and never heard of this flour. It’s now on my list! Thank you!

    • Its texture a bit different so you adjust the liquid It was new to me too. My DIL knew about it so I got some and though it costs a bit more but is more nutritious.

  3. This looks delicious. I’ve never tackled sourdough. My einkorn bread recipe is a mix-everything-together approach, which makes a fairly sticky dough. No kneading and straight into tin, but a good hour to prove. It makes a more solid loaf but very tasty.
