Power Outage Created True Candlelight Mass

Saturday night, 5:00 Mass at St.Patrick Michael and Jack were altar servers. When we arrived, the power was out. Total blackout.   As the sun set while we were inside, the light from the stained glass windows disappeared and it got more dark. Father announced you could use cell phones in church to use your flashlight. With no electricity there was no organ but a harpsichord played What Child is this?/Greensleeves tune and for the recessional everyone sang Joy to the World as the cantor started the well known hymn, acapella.

A true candlelight mass. It was actually quite beautiful.

Erika said to me,” You just said you wanted to watch that show, where people re-enacted the 1800s.”

Serious Airedales Pose in Christmas Sweaters

Maura tried to set up the shot. Josie and Henry were hopeful for the treats she had in her hand.

Erika was bummed when she saw the pictures and she said they weren’t smiling.

It’s true. They weren’t smiling. I’ve seen them smile. Just like getting kids to pose for the Christmas card photo. Doesn’t always turn out like you wish.

Jigsaw Puzzle Season

Jigsaw puzzles anyone? Yes or no?

if yes, what’s your method? Borders first? Similar colors? Solitary or communal effort?

Preferred number of pieces? Subject?

Anyone do a puzzle without looking at or knowing what the picture is?

In the mid 70’s I had a circular puzzle of a pizza with toppings.   I glued it together and tacked it on the kitchen door when we lived in Ft. Knox Kentucky.  Wish I had a photo of my colorful interior decoration in government quarters.
I’ve had a couple of puzzles made from my photographs and given them as gifts.

Relaxing activity? Stress reliever? Here’s the HIstory if you’re interested.

My Dad Bought These Shoes in 1994

On the way to Christmas Eve, my son showed me his shoes.  “Grampa bought me these shoes   in 1994.”

Mark told me he wore them to his high school, college and grad school graduations. He wore them at the baptisms of each of his 4 children.

He proposed to his wife in these shoes.

Mark added the burgundy laces for Xmas  and he showed me the socks I knit him for his 40th birthday.  It was sweet to hear the story of his shoes.

This morning he said they are Johnston & Murphy Conrad wingtips.

Learning to Frame a Shot -Heinz Factory

From the Penn Brewery window.

We were waiting for our early dinner to be served and the sun was going down Sunday evening. The Heinz Factory was across the way.  Maura watched me as I caught the building framed in the window pane and she asked if she could push the circle shutter. A collaborative effort. It’s a thrill when the grandkids want to take photos.
