Twenty Hour Journey

First leg of our journey complete.

Mary and I made it to Okanogan via Seattle and Wenatchee Washington to be with our brother David and his wife Carolee.

It’s a long way from New York City.  We got diverted to Minneapolis for a couple of hours but we were fortunate to make our connections. A little more excitement than we needed.

Here’s the article about  what happened on our way to Seattle.  Alaska Air couldn’t have been nicer to us.

Perfectly Framed Eyeballs

This afternoon I left a Shop ‘n Save where I don’t usually shop. I saw these eyeballs staring out of the dark frames.

The building is unoccupied. Just thinking about why they were painted there.

Weekly Photo Challenge- Frame

I look at my grandmother’s photo and wonder what she’s reading

On Sunday, my family drive through Durand IL (pop. 1500). It’s the place my family drive me every summer of childhood.

My son took a photo of his four kids in front of my grandparents house. He asked for an old photo of the house to compare. I rediscovered this picture of my maternal grandmother.

I wonder what she’s reading.

Remember the Wildflowers Painted by My Friend?

The Pennsylvania wildflowers were painted on her beehives -see the Wildflower paintings on Beehives by Joan

Here’s one jar of the thirty pounds of honey she harvested with the help of two fellow bee experts.

They brought their extractor with them to show and teach her how to harvest the honey.

She shared the honey with them and learned how to do it herself but was best with the team. (I’m sorry I don’t recall how long it took but a few hours.)

And I can tell you that it tastes beautifully delicious, full of summer flowers. I’ll have to ask Joan what she does to prepare the beehives for the winter.

Metal Restorer-People at Work

Meet John.  He restores metal downtown. Lots of metal.

I spoke with him when I was downtown for lunch on jury duty selection day.

John used to teach shop but it was difficult to land a full time teaching position.

How about these doors that have been restored?

Here’s the BEFORE.  Check out left top corner
I have to return to photograph some elevator doors he has restored. I should have asked him if he redtored the ones in the City County Building?Bronze elevator doors post, my guess? yes.
