Poem in Your Pocket Day – April 30th

My sister wrote to remind me that April 30th (tomorrow) is Poem in Your Pocket Day.

Don’t have a poem?

You can download one from the American Academy of Poets site right here

When I taught in a K-8 school, I had a basket of poems for the office counter with a sign, TAKE ONE.

I read a poem a day over the PA for the K-2 morning announcements for the month of April, National Poetry Month.

Sometimes the poem taker would put back the poem they selected in search of one that spoke to them.

Tonight I printed out The Pasture by Robert Frost. Put it in my denim blazer pocket.

When I was in the third grade (1960) I had to memorize and recite it at the end of the year “stepping up” ceremony.

Mary is going to have one of our mother’s favorite- Walt Whitman’s Elegy- When Lilacs Last in the Dooryard Bloomed

What poem will you have in your pocket to read and share?

Eastern Redbud Blooms

My friend Ginny planted this tree in my backyard as a memorial to my parents.  When Spring comes, despite the low temps tonight, the buds cluster and bloom all along the branches.

It is a most beautiful tree.

Soon the heart shaped leaves will appear.

People at Work Series

Not sure what number of the photographic series but Saturday morning I was in Oakland,(Pittsburgh) shopping at Top Notch Art Store for the 40% off sale on the Prismacolor Pencils-

and all of a sudden the driver of a USPS truck is waving at me.

I looked  through the door to the silhouette and and recognized him.

He pulled around to the curb and it was fun!  I’d never seen him at work.  I learned about the

OD green boxes on the corners.  Working all day Saturdays.

Thanks for letting me photograph you, Greg. You are always nice to me about my photography!

18th Art All Night 2015 Pittsburgh PA

Just got back from this wild event, the 18th ART ALL NIGHT in Lawrenceville.

Saturday morning I went down and registered a photograph that is hanging there now and I’ll pick it up Sunday afternoon.  This is the first year I’ve participated.  What a crowd!

Here are some of the patrons waiting to get into the warehouse to see the hundreds of artworks displayed. There are artists creating “LIVE ART” that will be auctioned or sold at noon Sunday.

Thanks for allowing me to blog you and your dogs!  Here are some Lawrenceville “neighbors” of the event.

Frank Lloyd Wright – Zeigler House- Guest Blog from Frankfort Kentucky

This afternoon my son Mark sent a few photos of the Zeigler House in Frankfort Kentucky.

Individual or group tours can be arranged with the homeowners (by appointment) and if you click the link above you can hear interviews of the owners telling what it is like to live there.

It is the only Frank Lloyd Wright building in Kentucky.

Here are the photos,  thanks Mark.
