Winnie the Pooh and friends Kanga, Eeyore, Piglet and Tigger as seen in the New York Public Library Thursday afternoon by my sister and her friend. I read that little Roo was lost in an apple orchard. Pooh just had a birthday August 21st. Gifted by A.A.Milne to son Christopher when he was one in 1921.
Thanks for sending the photo, Mary.

That is so sweet! And a library is the perfect place for it!
AHHH the wisdom of Pooh. 🙂 So sweet and comforting.

Pooh came from White River, Ontario Canada. He was brought to England by a soldier serving in WWI. He had been raised in the barracks and very friendly with people. When the soldier had to go to France, he was told he could not bring the bear. He talked to the London zoo and they agreed to care for Winnie the Pooh until the soldier returned.
The zoo allowed people to pet and ride Winnie. That is where A.A. Milne and his son Christopher met Winnie.
When the war was over and the soldier returned to London, he couldn’t believe how beloved his bear was. He made arrangements for Winnie to stay at the zoo.
White River has a celebration each year. Disney had to approve the statue the town has since they own the rights now. The soldier was from Winnipeg, therefore the name Winnie.
One of my favortie characters.
