Recently I attended a talk at the Senior Center by nutritionist Leslie J.Bonci MPH, RD, CSSD, LDN.
I looked up all the credential abbreviations so you don’t have to.
(Master of Public Health (MPH) focused in Nutritional epidemiology from U of Pittsburgh)
(Board Certification as a Specialist in Sports Dietetics (CSSD) is for Registered Dietitians (RD) who specialize in exercise and performance nutrition, clinical sports nutrition, and nutrition operations and management
An LDN, or Licensed Dietitian Nutritionist, is a registered dietitian (RDN) who has a state license to practice nutritional counseling. LDNs have the education and training to provide evidence-based nutrition counseling. They are specialists in diet and its impact on health, and can address medical concerns and create nutrition plans.)
She was very informative and one of her recommendations for increased bone health was to eat five prunes a day.
I like prunes.
Not everybody does.
Here’s an article about prune consumption.

Healthy snacks at the nutrition talk

“Prunes contain bioactive compounds called polyphenols, which help protect plum trees from insects and disease. In people, these beneficial compounds seem to reduce the inflammation processes that lead to bone loss. Prunes also contain vitamin K, and low vitamin K levels have been linked to low bone density”
I like prunes and eat them as snacks. Great health benefits. I had no idea that prunes help protect plum trees from insects and disease. Thanks for the info Ruth.
I have a good recipe for prune cake too.
I always have prunes in the house, looks like a new morning routine. Thanks for sharing the information.
Thanks for looking Pam.
Not a fan but might be worth trying. dc
Some people cook them with brussel sprouts.
I eat prunes for other reasons but I’m glad they are helpful for bone health. Excellent research Ruth E!
Thanks for looking snd writing today, Sue.
This is interesting since I have osteoporosis. Can’t say that I really like prunes, though. Maybe I’ll buy a bag and learn to like them. Thanks for sharing this.
Here’s a tip. Cut up the prunes in fourths. Cut a few dried apricots . Add some walnuts or nut of your choice, mix in a little dish. Fresh apple slices would complement the medley
I like dried prunes. When I was small it was the snack that I could have. . Sun Dried in a box that had a wax coating on it. I loved to chew on the prune seed.
Me too. Hard to find them with the pit these days.
A while back you could watch Leslie on the KDKA morning show at nine.
I’ll have to look for a video. Thank you.
Thanks for the information
It’s interesting isn’t if?
