Weekly Photo Challenge: Monument

Monument is the weekly challenge.  Mr. Ben Huberman says it can be” broadly defined”

The family was on vacation in Michigan this week.

My son Mark photographed Anna sitting on the Montgomery City Bus, in the very seat in which Rosa Parks was arrested, Dec 1, 1955.

The Rosa Parks Bus is in The Henry Ford in Dearborn Michigan. The exhibit is titled With Liberty and Justice for All.

There are Rosa Parks Statues in Grand Rapids Michigan,  Dallas Texas and The Capitol in Washington D.C.

Rosa Parks is buried in Woodlawn Cemetery in Detroit Michigan.  Here is the Wikipedia link to the “First Lady of Civil Rights”

  1. Very cool, Ruth! I grew up in Detroit, and we used to love going to the Henry Ford Museum and Greenfield Village as a family (and with the Girl Scouts).

  2. In addition to the historical significance, it’s also an outstanding photo – the light spilling in from both side, the shadows, the reflections in the ceiling. Everything. It’s really an excellent photo.

  3. I’ve seen a number of monuments in response to the challenge, Ruth, some of which were pretty majestic. This one, though, is in a class all its own.

  4. I love this photo of Anna sitting in the very spot where Rosa Parks once sat. It touches my heart and brings tears to my eyes.

  5. It is so important for our children and grandchildren to learn about the past – hopefully some of the mistakes won’t be repeated. Anna definitely seems like she is taking in the moment.

Thanks for your visit. It's always good to hear you stopped by.
