Swimming Attire c.1924

My grandfather Judd DeWitt VanSickle in the middle hugging his youngest son, my Uncle Robert. My grandmother Charlotte is sporting the sash, I believe. I calculate the date as Uncle Robert was born in 1914 and to me he looks about ten in this photo. Durand, Illinois or perhaps on vacation in the Wisconsin Dells.

From my grandmothers’s album

Looks like the women are wearing leather shoes.

  2. Amazing how everyone is dressed pretty much the same. I listened to a podcast a while back about children’s clothing, and they commented how all kids (regardless of gender) were dressed in plain white/light colored gowns until they were 1-2 years old. I like the uniformity (e.g., sameness) of it.
