Bill Mazeroski -a Pittsburgh icon. His home run was what caused the Pirates to win the pennant in the 1960 World Series.

He passed on Friday at age 89. Here’s the NYTimes obituary

I made a post when the statue was unveiled.

The 99 year old photographer James Klingensmith was present at the ceremony by PNC Park. It was his photograph the artist Susan Wagner based her sculpture.

  1. My favorite ever baseball player! I was at his inauguration into the Hall of Fame. We have a leaf by his statue. A few tears were shed yesterday. Thank you Ruth E!

  2. I was 11 years old at the time, and I still seeing him hit that home run on tv, at my cousin’s house after school. I can still remember to this day. They are showing that game on MLB TV.
