Murphy the Airedale Terrier is an important part of the McGrath family. Here’s his birthday party 3 1/2 years ago in the kitchen.
In this photo, Erika is expecting Maura Clare- who just turned 3 after Laura and James’ wedding in November. No more jumpy seats in the house these days.
I was trying to decide if Laura had already met James when this celebration shot was taken.
Murphy didn’t get to eat one of his cupcakes but we all did. Well, that was AFTER we sang Happy Birthday. Seriously. The kids loved it!
It was a happy celebration and the excitement level was high, even though it was just before bedtime. Creating family rituals and traditions makes for happy memories later.
You might not believe me but Murphy not only poses, he smiles for the camera! That night grandson Michael hid from the lens, though.

I don’t think Murphy wants you to tell anyone how old he really is
I can’t believe how the kids have grown. You are right creating memories is so so important.
great funny group! congrats, that you fixed this!
A great photo of a beautiful family!
Hey, how come Murphy didn’t get a cupcake???
You are so right about creating memories. A cousin’s family celebrated their dog’s birthdays when their girls were young. Today, grown and with families of their own, they often remark about the birthday parties — and celebrate their dogs’ birthdays with their little ones.
Thanks for sharing this story about carrying on family traditions. So dear!
Beautiful. I loved these happy and smiling faces. Cute dog. I love the baby too.

Even with strong competition, Murphy seems to know he is the star here! It is his celebration, for sure! Great photo! I cannot decide which style I like better!!!
You are an active Birthday Family! so it makes sense that Murphy gets to have his cake, but not eat it too!!! 🙂
Wow, how cute is Murphy, who certainly looks to be taking it all in his stride!
Great photo! Great dog! Great family!
happy celebrations
Love how Murphy is looking dead at the camera! Great family pic!

I like how the little kids don’t quite know what to do with their party hats. And you know I have a soft spot for Murphy. I love how one photo says so much.
Another photo that HAS to put a smile on your face!
So happy this was today’s post. Today is my Emma’s 8th birthday. (Tibetan) Her picture (taken by Ruthie) is my computer background and it’s fabulous. We did make cupcakes but unfortunately they looked like cupcakes not like dogs – I’ll have to work on that. Celebrations are wonderful
The cupcakes look fantastic! Family traditions and celebrations are wonderful things. 🙂
