From my Grandmother Charlotte Rowley Van Sickle’s Rockford High School Annual 1906. I started reading the faculty pages of my grandmothers high school yearbook. I noticed none of the women were married.
And then I went to Find- a -Grave Memorial Search.
Miss Flora Eddy was the head of the local Woman’s Suffrage movement I don’t know what subject she taught, though.

North of Pittsburgh ( Wilmington) many years ago if you were a woman you were not allowed to be married and teach school. I learned that at a family reunion.
Thank you for honoring these exceptional women as you do today. However, I would like to be the editor of some of that writing…some of which is difficult to read. But then I need to remember the time in which it was written.
Years ago, if you were pregnant you had to leave teaching before you showed. How did they think the children were going to react!

Some lived long lives, and some died so young. Agree that the poetry was a bit challenging to follow – but I imagine people will say that 100 years from now when they look back at tweets and IMs that are common place these days…
