6:57 am update from Niceville adding to
Original post
“All done I think. Currently, 22° and 5 inches of snow that stopped about 11 PM last night. Most major roads are currently closed.
We had a snow sled that we bought at a yard sale about 30 years ago. At 22° outside, I am not planning on getting it out! 😁”

Unexpected text from a friend with this scene in Niceville, Florida!

“Almost 5 inches of snow and still accumulating. So glad we moved to Florida. A good day for soup and. . . . Homemade pumpkin bread! Your mom’s recipe. First time we’ve tried it and it is good!” Shuey

It was almost 13 years ago that our family friend Shuey sent this wonderful photo of the Barred Owl and was guest blogger. It was the most viewed post that year!

You don’t expect snow in Florida
You are right Sheree!
Just a little cool at 43 degrees here in Sarasota, Fl this morning. Fortunately the snow and sleet don’t come this far south.
Time to bake a pie.
No snow in Gainesville, FL but freezing rain, 32 degrees. Staying home today.
That’s cold for you. How are the orchids?
Snow! In Florida!
I know! A surprise
Isn’t that something? I’m not surprised though because my friend on the gulf coast of Texas near Houston has several inches of snow too and about the same temps as Florida. Crazy weather.
Unpredictable. That’s for sure.
No snow in Ft Myers Florida but too cold for golf today. Probably Friday also. dc
Stay warm.
Who would have guessed Florida would get so much snow. Crazy weather lately.
Very unexpected.
I feel for all in the South who are not used to such cold and snow. We are much warmer here today in southern Minnesota with a temp of 28 degrees. It feels balmy compared to earlier in the week. There’s been about a 50-degree temperature swing upwards and I welcome that. I don’t like subzero temps in the double digits coupled with wind. Way too bitterly cold.
Your community knows what to do in extreme weather. I bet many places don’t have a plow or salt for the roads. .
Just looked at the photos again. Niceville becomes ICEVILLE! dc
Ahhh yes I added a few of his pics in the update. Iceville a good renaming.
Even if rare yes it snow in the panhandle area of north Florida on several years. Lived for many years in central florida and visit the area quite a bit. Now I give it to you freely don’t needed glad long gone from my habitat. Nice pictures thus. Cheers
I have a friend in Atlanta who experienced a similar snowy surprise. She liked it for about 10 min. 😂
Yes they don’t have the equipment or experience to manage the ice and snow
