The first photo is from 2010. What they called Snowmageddon.

STREET PARKING PLACEHOLDER
Street Parking Space Savers- revisiting Snowmageddon 2010. Many people are experiencing more snow right now. So is it a Pittsburgh thing? You see all kinds of chairs reserving parking spaces all around the city after someone has shoveled out their space, planning to return to it, later.
I’ve seen a port-a-crib to reserve a parking space!
And here’s the update on our 2026 snow. Thursday the fourth day that school is cancelled.

My unplowed street pictured below

Brill, Ruth! That’s a lot of snow.
And it’s been so cold it’s still here a week later
⛄️ ❄️ 🥶
Wow! You certainly did get a lot of snow.
It’s still here. You should see the piles
Reminds me of my days in Calgary!
I definitely do it! But I don’t plan on moving my car anytime soon. My chair is ready.
A certified pittsburgher!
I saw the new mayor, Corey O’Connor, on the local news. He made the request that Pittsburghers respect the law of the chair. Then the news showed photos, like yours, of chairs all over the city sandwiched between massive piles of shoveled snow.
Respect the chair!
I still can’t believe that objects work as parking place holders…. 🙂
There are quite a variety
I’ve not seen anything like this in Minnesota in winter. But then again I don’t live in a major metro area. Our crews are rather good at getting snow plowed off streets quickly. Hopefully your street is cleared soon.
We got a lot of show. People work hard to clear their spot.
That is funny. Never saw anything like that when I lived in Idaho. dc
Pittsburgh is the origin of this practice
I’ve never seen them in any other places I’ve lived.
I’ve seen a Christmas tree ornament that you can buy that it is chair.
Oh that’s fun
Great parking spot.
We have so much snow. Still here
