Wind Chimes in Winter

Wind Chimes in Winter. These Woodstock Chimes made in the USA- were a wedding gift to Laura and James ten years ago- from my my friend Joanne. They’re protected by the porch. They have clear musical tones. These tubes are aluminum.

According to Happy Gardens The Times of India says that wind chimes have been around since 1100BC when ancient a Chinese emperor and civilizations cast the first wind bells called Fenglings

Wikipedia says

Wind chimes are a type of percussion instrumentconstructed from suspended tubes, rods, bells or other objects that are often made of metal or wood. The tubes or rods are suspended along with some type of weight or surface which the tubes or rods can strike when they or another wind-catching surface are blown by the natural movement of air outside.”

Waiting for a Ride to Commencement

Saturday at 12:30 PM, Pittsburgh Carrick High School’s Class of 2013 will graduate.

Friday morning, the Timpani were waiting for a truck to take them to Petersen Events Center at University of Pittsburgh.  Ready for their part in  Sir Edward Elgar’s Pomp and Circumstance as the seniors walk in the processional.

The bowl of the drum seemed to glow on this overcast day. And yes, there’s a snare drum peeking from behind.

The Best Damn Band in the Land Tryouts

After Erika and Laura ran the Spirit of Columbus Half Marathon, we drove home via Ohio State University Campus.  There in a hot parking lot were the Marching Band Tryouts.  Known as  The Best Damn Band in the Land, all brass and percussion. The kids loved marching around to the rapid drum beats.  We saw a young man running to his music audition portion, carrying his cymbals in a padded case.  Four hundred+ trying for 225 slots.  You have to try out every year. With two buckeyes in the family now and OSU being Steve’s and Dorothy’s alma mater one thinks about how team allegiances are born, how rivalries are formed. A lot depends on where yo live. Or move.  People have strong feelings about teams. And Marching Band music heightens pride and emotion.

Steelers’ fans not limited to just Pittsburgh but are around the world. For more info on the OSU Marching Band click here We had a nice but really hot day! Check out the buckeyes on the ceiling of stadium entrance.
