Mochi (The ones in photograph are filled with ice cream not bean paste)
“Mochi (Japanese: 餠, もち)
“Mochi (pronounced MOE-chee) is a Japanese dessert made of sweet glutinous rice flour, or mochigome. With a chewy, smooth, elastic texture, mochi dough is often tinted with green tea powder (matcha) or other food colorings and wrapped around a sweet center to form small, bite-size confections. In its traditional form, this kind of mochi is filled with sweet red bean paste.”
Blood Orange, Mango, Pistachio, Vanilla, Blueberry, Strawberry, These are the flavors I bought today.
your photo is pretty and you capture the beauty of these sweet treats.
They are so fun to see – and eat!
we like these (Wegman’s sells some – bigger than those in the pic) but we try not to have any sugar and flour – and so we now make ice cream from coconut milk (Trader Joe’s has some cans with no gunk added) and add stevia – then change the toppings –
Wow Yvette. Thanks for writing today. We don’t have a Wegman store here.
well maybe they will be coming to PA- but mattters not because you have found a place to get your treats !
I don’t like mochi … I love them!!! MZ
I wonder how many one should eat as a recommended serving. 😀
That is a really good question!
I haven’t heard of Muchi, but these look so gorgeous.and I’ll take ice cream over bean paste any day. 😅
These were the ice cream ones. Sweet and cool. I know bean paste isn’t my thing either.
I would probably love them all! Have you tasted them? Do you have a favorite?
Vanilla. Pistachio. Strawberry my fave.
After seeing this post on your blog, I bought a box of Vanilla Mochi when I was shopping at Trader Joe’s. I have one word to say: YUM!
Spoiler Alert – you may prefer to be uninformed.
Per 1 internet source – you may want a wider number of sources. Comparing the calories vs the carbs for both red bean paste and ice cream- because I am type 2 diabetic. Aha- the ice cream is “healthier” – Yes, the numbers will vary per flavor.
Rounding numbers for 1 piece of the ice cream version 100- 110 calories and 24 carbs
versus the bean paste containing more than 200 calories and 70 carbs / piece.
Stick with the ice cream version.
Thanks for the good info Connie. Phew, these are ice cream.
I’ve not ever heard of these, which is no surprise given our limited food choices outside the major metro areas here in Minnesota. But I would try these for sure.
They sell them in Whole Foods. 🙂
That’s where I bought these.
I’d send you some to try but they’d melt.
Oh my… Mochi is one of my favorite dessert, especially freshly prepared ones are very smooth and tasty, I can eat them with grated root vegetables with a bit of soy sauce 😋🥂
