Department stores but not clocks have gone out of fashion
True Sheree. So true.
Oh I remember Kaufmann’s so fondly
My first real job as a teenager (other than babysitting for neighbors and being a Candy Striper) was at Hornes, but that was always considered a step down from Kaufmann’s. And what a fabulous clock. Thanks for the walk down Pittsburgh memory lane.
That’s a great image, Ruth!
Thanks. I remember it well. My father was a warehouse worker, and he worked at Kaufman’s warehouse on the North Side. It was demolished – along with a lot of other buildings – to build Three Rivers Stadium.
Thanks for sharing, Ken.
Everyone met under the Kauffman Clock!
This is beautiful. So glad it wasn’t removed.
It’s a treasure. I’ll have to take a daytime shot in the light to see it’s true elegance.
Dayton’s has a similar legacy here in Minneapolis.
