Kaufmann’s Department Store is long gone but the Kaufmann’s Clock installed in 1913 (click bold name for history) is an Historic Landmark in Downtown Pittsburgh.

  1. Oh I remember Kaufmann’s so fondly
My first real job as a teenager (other than babysitting for neighbors and being a Candy Striper) was at Hornes, but that was always considered a step down from Kaufmann’s. And what a fabulous clock. Thanks for the walk down Pittsburgh memory lane.

  2. Thanks. I remember it well. My father was a warehouse worker, and he worked at Kaufman’s warehouse on the North Side. It was demolished – along with a lot of other buildings – to build Three Rivers Stadium.

    • It’s a treasure. I’ll have to take a daytime shot in the light to see it’s true elegance.
