10:10 on the Clock 11/20/1980

My friend V told me clocks and watches are frequently set at 10:10. I looked it up and she’s right. Aesthetically pleasing to the eye, not blocking logo on clock face, looks like the clock is smiling- yes there’s a lot out there about the 10:10 setting. Article from Mental Floss here.

November 20, 1980 was a snowy morning. We left home a little after 8 AM. The hospital in Clarion Pennsylvania was barely a block away from our house. It was beginning to snow.

I was told, “oooops baby isn’t in a good position so you could be here all day.”

Guess you heard that declaration, got into a good position, then everything happened fast? You decided you’d surprise us and not wait around for hours.

You were born at 10:10 AM.

My mom came out from Philadelphia to help. And the next day my dad showed up at the front door unexpectedly. He couldn’t stay home and not drive out the six hours to see you.

Looking at this photo of my mom holding you, I realize my mother (68) is just 5 years younger than I am now.

When we got home from the hospital there was a handmade wooden cradle in front of the fireplace, made with hand tools by our good friend Shuey. you could turn it over and it was a bench to sit on. Your big brother Mark was so excited to meet you.

Love to you on your birthday, Matthew.

Love, Ma

Wasted Time – Guest Blog

My granddaughter Maura sent me this photo tonight- she’s on her way back from vacation.

I love that she saw the clock in the garbage and took a pic and sent it to me.

Master Clock Repair

Meet Michael Gainey. Master Clock Repair Columbus Ohio.

I haven’t photographed many People at Work during the Pandemic. It was nice to be welcomed and shown Mr. Gainey’s workbench and tools he uses to fix all kinds of clocks. More than 44,000 clocks have been repaired!!! Do you have a family clock that’s been passed down through generations?

He told me his story, how he got into the business. His son works alongside him, repairing clocks, too. I had made an appointment to stop on our way home to Pittsburgh after Anna’s HS graduation weekend.
Laura had a musical cuckoo clock, resting in a box, that needed to be fixed. We’d bought it in the German Black Forest about 35 years ago. I know it’s in good hands.

Consider the Gumball Machine

When’s the last time you saw one?

Monday morning I took Steve’s car to get some new tires before winter sets in. My friend V had told me about a Family owned tire business Laurel Gardens Tire Service Inc.

You wait about an hour while they mount the tires. There’s a TV on, pots of coffee. I knit on some socks. Right near me were some classic gumball and candy vending machines.

If I’ve seen a gumball machine in recent years, I don’t remember. They didn’t register in my brain. Can’t you just hear the sound the machine makes as you twist the knob and the gumball rolls down the metal chute. The flapping metal door?

Did you ever put in a coin, only to have the ball roll onto the floor as it exited the dispenser?

I sat there knitting, wondering who invented them. This type of machine has been around since about 1907.

No, I wasn’t tempted to put a coin in the slot.

Lots of choices. Lots of sun shining today.
Steve went to Goodyear Middle School in Akron Ohio. How about that cool Goodyear tire clock?

Oh yes, the new tires are great!

Does Anyone Really Know What Time it is?

Not in my house. Unless you are checking your phone.

Or the oven digital in the kitchen or the two on the desk in the front hall.

The weekly challenge is Time

The clocks and watches in my home are not synchronized with the time zone.

The one below is correct  too but I had to remove the art work to check it

Digital clock was a retirement gift. Right time on the Roman Numetals once I took off Joan’s artwork she sent for Christmas

Find the Typo on My Colleague’s Clock

Monday morning at Common Planning period, my colleague took her clock off the wall to spring forward an hour and showed me the face.
She had told me it had a typo and to read it carefully.
So I read it outloud.

We had a good laugh.
Six bucks at Family Dollar Store.

Thank you Lauren for the good idea for a blog post!
