1900’s Menus and Recipes

The first is a Class Banquet menu from my Grandmother’s 1906 Yearbook and the second menu and all the recipes from an old cookbook I dusted off. Its date was 1913.

  1. This is such a fascinating window into the past. It raises many questions for me. What is a stuffed tomato salad? How does one make buttered beets? What are Longbranch Wafers? Why has veal pot pie disappeared from our menus? Today’s post really made me think. It really is a fascinating window into the past.

  2. I want to know what an asparagus pattie is?? Never heard of that. AND… my mom LOVED piccalilli on saltines so the jar was a staple in our refrigerator. Not on my list…..
