Apples produce a gaseous hormone called ethylene when they ripen, which is a ripening agent. So the over-ripe ones do encourage the good ones to go bad quicker.
I’m sure you know that 😉
I’M GUESSING YOU ARE MAKING Apple Sauce. I use a Food Mill and it takes off the skin and mashes the Apples all at one time. I put it in the Micro Wave with a lid and cook . Time depending on how much Apple Sauce you have in the bowl keep checking every 4 or 5 min. I add sugar after it is cooked. EASY
Your applesauce sounds delicious. My apples ate just that, apples. No added sugar. And this batch I’m leaving in chunks so no sauce today. I don’t have a microwave now either so a hefty pot on the stovetop for me. Thanks for writing today.
The same can be said for potatoes. It seems like there’s a bad one in every bag. Glad you found this bad apple before all the apples were spoiled. I bet your house smells great. And the taste of those cooked apples, yum.
I love to add cinnamon and also clove and all spice 🙂
So good, thank you.

Ahhh, I appreciate your scientific explanation and am darn lucky the others were salvageable. And actually I did not know that.
One bad apple ain’t bad.
We know some.
Looks delicious, now I want apple pie.
Good idea.

Apple sauce or apple pie?
Just the chunks.
