Throwing Gravel in the Lake at Dusk

From the archives: two years ago    After supper we drove to the lake and the dam in Lewis Center Ohio.  The grandchildren picked up some of the gravel and tried to throw it into the lake. Endless fascination with the small stones.  Just before sunset.

Stones Throw

Glass houses.
Sticks and stones.
How many stones
do you weigh?
Mick’s Band.
Bob’s, Like a Rolling Stone
gather no moss.
Riverbed bottoms.
Chiseled in stone.
What you could be
turned into
by the Queen of Narnia.
Skip one across pond.
Carve a quarry.
I gave my love a cherry–
it had no stone
.
The heart of a peach.

In the Baby Doll Aisle

What were we thinking?  We got out of the giant toy store with the item we had on our list but had to add this plastic doll to the cart while we shopped.  No real expression of desire until the baby doll aisle—  WHOA!   Maura became totally animated, pointing, babbling turned to squealing . Loudly.  Her mom  said we weren’t buying it, so we parked the doll at the front when we checked out.  It really didn’t have a nice face!  Maura (20 months) didn’t care what it looked like- she wanted them ALL! When she got into the van and was reunited with her doll from home, she was happy.  I bought two bottles to feed her doll, the kind you tip and the liquid disappears.

1984- Moment in Motherhood/Childhood

Grafenwoehr Germany. Under the kitchen sink!  One of my favorite photos of Mark, Matthew and Laura.  Everyone laughing, having  a good time. (Mark’s own children are about their ages now). How they decided to get in the cupboard I don’t know but looking at this picture always makes me happy. Scanner not working so photographed the photo.

Who makes me a mom?
Looks like an oven rack or a cooling rack in Matthew's hands. Laughing under the sink.
