1906 Basketball Teams

Last week’s Throwback Thursday was the Mandolin Club. This week it’s basketball season. How about Rockford High School, Illinois basketball teams in 1906?

Another page or two from my grandmother’s yearbook. No relatives on either team but thought the photos were interesting to see, even if you don’t know the people.

Mr. Paul Lucas was coach of both teams. It states “he has never once faltered in his plan.”

Not sure what they wore to play the game

Henry the Airedale Remained Unperturbed

Henry the Airedale sat serenely while Maura jumped around outside for a few minutes. She shed her coat. I had on wool socks, wool sweater, down vest and wool hat. I could hear my mother in my head, warning me about pneumonia weather or catching a chill. Maura thought that the sun being out and her running around made it an early Spring. She kept her hat on her head.   Then put her coat back on. Brrrr. My hands were cold when I got inside.

Henry just sat there, taking in the fresh cool air.  No “sit” or “stay”command given.

And no, I did NOT knit her hat.

Basketball Fans Reflection in a Glossy Gym Floor

Our friends’ son is a basketball coach for a local high school team and we were invited to see them win the last game of the season last night.  I was shooting with a 70-200 lens and not moving around much but as I sat there this reflection caught my eye. At the half I switched sides for a different view from the fans’ perspective but I was glad I’d captured this reflection earlier.

These fans were enthusiastic and moved around a lot but at this moment they were all still.
