Crossing 38th at Butler Street
I’d parked on Butler Street in Lawrenceville. Millie’s Homemade Ice Cream opened at two.

NOT an Abandoned Couch
A slow week for furniture on the curb. Have I stayed home more? Less driving around?
Perhaps I should start a spin-off blog for my abandoned furniture finds over the years.

Lawrenceville Dressers
I looked it up as suddenly the word dresser seemed a funny name for these wooden items. “What Is a Chest of Drawers? A chest of drawers is distinctly different from a dresser in regard to shape and form. Instead of being long, short, and deep, they are tall and narrow. While dressers feature multiple columns of drawers, a chest of drawers has just one single row, stacked vertically.”

Loveyourlibrary.org
I went to the Carnegie Library Lawrenceville Branch today to return a book and get some knitting patterns printed. Everyone is always so helpful. They were gracious to give me this bright red bag to hold all my papers and books.
I do love my library.

All donations will be matched until September 30th!

Barb’s Corner Kitchen
In Lawrenceville. Steve suggested “breakfast out” Sunday morning. He’d heard about Barb’s Diner.
Having just posted two days honoring Veterans on the blog it was serendipity to find these two displays on the wall that stay up all year long.

Adventure Completed
We returned to Lawrenceville where we started our library adventure. It was the branch where we’d gotten our CLP Passports and our first stamp. Librarian Steve gave us the forms to fill out. He offered to stamp our passports but we already had the stamp. He stamped our notes pages with the extra large stamper though! A bonus stamp. He also emailed us the pdf brochures about each library branch we visited. Thank you.

the first branch library (1898) after the Main Library

What a fun time Jen and I had driving all over the city, collecting the stamps at the nineteen branches within the city limits. It was her idea to participate and I’m so glad she invited me along.

Ballot Bins- A Creative Anti-Litter Effort in Pittsburgh
I saw my first Ballot Bin today on Butler Street in the Lawrenceville neighborhood. Here’s an article in The City Paper about this method to reduce cigarette butt litter in the city. Fighting litter is an ongoing battle. By the number of cigarette butts deposited in the bin, I’d say the Ballot Bin seems to be working.
Non-residents of Pittsburgh may not be familiar with the language of Pittsburghese so click here to familiarize yourself with the dialect. Or Wikipedia has a definition of Western Pennsylvania English with examples of lifelong speakers. Or scroll below photo to see these two words definitions. The questions can be changed on the bins. I’ll keep my eye out for some more examples of this anti-litter campaign.

yinz –The term stems from the word you ones yinz (or yunz), a second-person plural pronoun brought to the area by early Scottish-Irish immigrants.
