Note to Self: Spring Always Comes

Antidote to Gray

Tulips in a glass vase or pitcher in the front hall. They add color and warmth to the winter’s gray.

Signs of Spring in Berlin: Weekly Photo Challenge

Awakening 2. Signs of Spring in Berlin. Real time.

Yesterday’s post was of Grandson Charlie when he was brand new, just opening his eyes- from the 2015 archives. I caused a bit of confusion as he’ll celebrate his 3rd birthday in June.

Ambience/Ambiance: Weekly Photo Challenge

It was Margie over at Fueled by Chocolate blog who alerted me to the two possibilities of spelling and inspired the title of this post and Jeff Golenski at WordPress challenged bloggers to post a photo illustrating ambience

And then my neighbor, Joaquin, is always encouraging me to make photographs with the things I have in my home. I took his advice tonight and thought I might do a whole series of ambience/ambiance- creating still lifes to lift my spirits.

I definitely lifted my mood by creating this little scene.  My original intent was to show the tulips in the hammered aluminum pitcher but since I have been knitting all week I went to my living room bookshelf and found the rabbit figurines waiting to be photographed.  Oh and I pulled out the good camera instead of the phone today.  It’s that wonderful Canon 50mm 1.2 L series lens that allowed me to take the shot with scant light.

“Ambience is the atmosphere of one’s surrounding environment. It basically boils down to how one’s surroundings impact the human senses and alter the feelings of an individual. Things like light, temperature, smell, sound, and sometimes taste, all work together to create ambience. The term ambience usually refers to a positive atmosphere that uplifts a person’s mood. As an example, one might say, “Wow, this place has real ambience!”

Winter’s Antidote

Winter’s antidote.

My sister said she’d gotten some pussy willows to hang the wooden rabbit ornaments on and I’d just written a reply to a comment from Stef,

I can’t wait to post signs of Spring.

Tulips in the Sun

Last week I borrowed Erika’s pink tulips in Ohio and put the vase outside in the snow to photograph the contrast.

Perhaps you saw that post.

My sister is the one who said, “Buy Spring flowers like the Germans did when you lived in Germany” and I took her advice.

This morning I went to the market to get some fresh produce and a bunch of tulips was 4.99 which I thought was well worth it. They’re from Virginia.

What a different feeling a bouquet of Spring tulips can bring to your spirit.

“We lost an hour of winter”, Mary told me when we set the clocks forward.

This afternoon the sun came in through the dining room window but it didn’t hit the table so I put the vase on the floor to catch the light.

Hope for Imminent Spring could be another title.

p.s. My sister wrote an early email after she saw the Tulips in the Sun post to ask me   “did you remember to put the 3 pennies in the water?  It make the tulips last longer. Hint from the Brooklyn Botanic Garden.”

Tulips in the Snow

After breakfast in Ohio. The hope of an imminent Spring.
Thought the tulips would help counteract the snowy landscape this morning.
A single petal fell off and froze quickly.
