Mirror is the Weekly Photo Challenge so I’m interrupting the Northwest Vacation Series to post my favorite mirror photo. Maura is going to be eight come November- her baby photo makes me smile. Time passes at a rapid rate which is what old people always said to me but now I am understanding what they were advising me when I was young. The baby blanket belonged to her mother Erika when she was a baby. I always like the heirlooms passed on to another generation.
Bridgeport, Washington is a small town on the Columbia River, near Chief Joseph Dam. The town’s old sycamore trees, which lined the main street, were in sad shape but instead of being cut down, chainsaw artist Jacob Lucas has transformed them into incredible sculptures.
With a CHAINSAW!

Salmon, quail, wolves, cougars, bear, the logging industry, deer, farming, pelicans, beavers, dragonfly, bees and honeycomb, eagles and other native species are a few of the themes of the tree sculptures.

Meet Susan. Most gracious yarn store hostess. Every yarn store you visit has “a feel to it” and this is one welcoming shop. See the label for the botanical dyed local yarn. Just beautiful. I bought some sock yarn weight with silk yarn with a label Three Fates.
Meet the founder of eqpd (say:equipped) Jonathan Baker, originally from New Hampshire, Rhode Island School of Design grad ( he even used to camp in Ossipee NH where my SIL used to live)

Check out this apron made out of two pairs of jeans. A loaf of dark rye sourdough hit the spot for lunch. Added some sharp cheese. Cinnamon Twisp Bakery
We walked down from the center of town to TwispWorks (in Twisp, Washington) today. A nice woman in the Office/Art and Craft Supply Store recommended we walk down and see a native garden and check out some of the artists’ studios. More on that tomorrow….
One of the workshops,Nice Nests was open and Patrick Hannigan was working on building species-specific nests, using salvaged scrap wood.
I bought a Swallows Nest that had a purple edge, signifying the color of a lilac bush on a homestead in Carlton. The homestead is gone, but the lilac bush thrives, he told me.
My sister-in-law Carolee feeds a lot of birds and I wanted to get a nice hostess gift for her.
The rust color represents a certain lichen found on the trees in the area. All the colors represent native plants in the region.
Meet Patrick, owner of Nice Nests and creator of all the species specific nests
