Come see my friend’s artwork

Granddaughter Maura called from Minneapolis today to share what she was looking at while she was on vacation- Spoonbridge and Cherry
by artists Claes Oldenburg and his wife Coosje van Bruggen.
Earlier this year Maura did a school report on Oldenburg for Art Class and we had looked at some of Oldenburg’s public art sculpture online and discussed locations where they could be viewed.
And here she was today, getting the chance to experience this huge sculpture in person. Minneapolis Sculpture Garden is adjacent to the Walker Art Center
“The spoon itself weighs 5,800 pounds and the cherry, another 1,200 pounds. The cherry’s stem also acts as a fountain which sprays into the bowl of the spoon and off into the pond beneath”
It was very exciting to get Maura’s Face Time call and to see it at the same time as she was looking right at it.
And then she sent two pictures. I took the third one as a screen shot as we were on the call.
Here’s an article about this iconic and “quirky Landmark”

In 2016 I took a fun photo on Mt.Washington in Pittsburgh inspired by Spoonbridge and Cherry

Deborah McLaren’s still life pis one I purchased at the PERSAD Celebrate Life Celebrate Art auction at the Carnegie Museum in Pittsburgh last May. The other day I sat at the table, looked up and saw Steve’s additions to the decor. He has been purchasing RITZ crackers frequently since I bought the painting, subliminal influence? I wrote to the artist for her permission to post the image of her painting along with his props. Steve’s fun additions- the unexpected sight of them in front of the still life- I laughed out loud! How to make life fun!

A mural, Aqua Boogie, by artist Matt Spahr.
My friend Jen is friends with him and we walked around the corner, after coffee so she could show me his work.

Brightening the urban landscape with colorful art!
Laura sent me this photo she took today in Columbus Ohio.

My friend Joanne’s flight was delayed so she was getting a bite to eat and then walking around Terminal A-East in the Philadelphia Airport, waiting for her flight to be called. Although she was eager to get to her destination, the delay gave her time to photograph all these colorful artworks. Creating a guest blog today was not her plan, it just happened. There was a lot of yarn!

“This exhibition features work by Philadelphia area artists(listed below) who were invited to create unique architectural interventions within the Airport terminal. Using yarn, fabric, felt, found objects, tape, paint, wheat paste, and wood, the artists applied their work to the ceiling tiles, columns, rockers, walls, walkway, and windows. They have visually transformed this location into an immersive and experiential art-filled passageway.”

Have a wonderful holiday . Thank you Joanne. Joanne’s most recent guest blog was the one of the bronze sculptures in Halifax Nova Scotia – The Volunteers.
I’m at Mark and Erika’s House in Ohio and saw the gorgeous painting of Immaculate Heart of Mary church in Pittsburgh’s Polish Hill neighborhood.
It’s where they were married in August 2002.
I posted Bill’s artwork in Ohio in 2018 but it deserves another post.

Carnegie Museum of Art Miniature Gallery
“This dining room is one of three reproductions that Sarah Mellon Scaife commissioned around 1950. It was made by a New York gallery and interior decorator, French & Company, as a tiny copy of the actual dining room at Penguin Court, the Scaife residence in Ligonier, PA”

The mansion at penguin Court has been demolished and the 900+ acre property is a conservancy
