Duck Duck Go Search Engine Does NOT Track You

TAKE BACK YOUR PRIVACY is what it says on the DUCK DUCK GO page here

Have you tried this search engine and if so, what do you think?  If not yet, why not try it?

Recently my friend Steve ran into an acquaintance who’s about 25 years younger than we are.

I mention the age difference as I’m sure it’s one reason I’m just hearing about it.

The guy is totally into computers and does well although I can’t tell you what his business is exactly except when they were talking about search engines he recommended the search engine DUCK DUCK GO.

The selling point (no charge) is they DON’T TRACK YOU.

Have you ever searched for an item and then received emails and ads in a variety of places with said item?? I am always being offered an opportunity to receive an online master’s degree in Art Education. It’s well known I look at shoes.  And now it’s baby items.

My friend V was researching a blender purchase and I helped.  Whoa!

I can’t tell you how long I got promos and ads about blenders. They KNEW I hadn’t purchased a blender yet! I’m offered photography books all the time. And equipment.  Let’s face it, Amazon has my #.

This just happened to me today. Again.

Suddenly they’re offering me FREE SHIPPING on printed invitations. (Thanks a lot-a tad late-  I already ordered printed invitations the other day and paid for shipping)

There’s an excellent article about Duck Duck GO by Harry McCracken  at TIME magazine who calls it the In-N- Out Burger of Search Engines.  You’ll still use Google for images and books. But there is definitely “reduced clutter.”

Thank you Mr. Gabriel Weinberg for founding Duck Duck Go.  You are my new home page. I read more about your company in Paoli, Pennsylvania on the Wikipedia Article here.

It took me seven years to find you.

Maybe a few more fans will like your privacy factor (for the good).

Oh yes, they’re hiring, too.

I know this is primarily a photography blog but I didn’t want to screen shot their logo without permission.

Drive Thru Coffee Arriving in Pittsburgh at 6:30 AM 10-16-14

Different parts of the country have Drive Thru coffee all over the place. Not Pittsburgh! Until NOW.

My plan is to be at the new Zeke’s, close to opening,  on my way to school

A good way to start a very long day- Parent conferences/Open House tomorrow.

They are calling it a “soft opening” as they are still “under construction”.

Remember the urban block that is slated to be razed?

Zeke’s Drive Thru will be at 6314 Broad Street in East Liberty

(near the Post Office and next door neighbors to  Station Street Hot Dogs,   starting Thursday morning at 6:30) You can see the GOOGLE flag at Bakery Square from the premises. Hope they make it around the block to support their new neighbor.

There’s a banner on the roof. You can’t miss it. Where the pound bags are just that- one pound!

Google Pittsburgh

When we first lived in Pittsburgh and Matthew played baseball in Mellon Park across the street from Bakery Square we could smell the aroma of baking. Crackers, cookies, it was the NABISCO Factory built in 1918.  Bakery Square has been “repurposed” as they say.  And GOOGLED.

There’s a Coffee Tree that opens at 5:30 AM. for the early birds.

And a close-up crop of the Google flag.
