Excuse Me, May I Please Photograph Your Ink?

Excuse me, may I please photograph your ink?

I know it’s generational, I have no ink. But I was intrigued when I saw this woman’s back.

Perhaps my asking this wedding guest if I might photograph her ink was bold, but it caught my eye. She said it would be okay.  The Disney Villains.

Did you know they’re on stamps at the USPS, too?

My friend J sometimes asks people at cocktail parties “If you HAD to get a tattoo, what design would you choose?” and some respond, “Oh my NO I would never….” but she says, “if you had to.” What meaningful symbol would you select? Second question is “Where on your body would you have it inked?”

To tattoo or not to tattoo?  There is some intricate ink out there. And there are even knitting tattoos.  Yep!  Who knew?

Tattooed Mannequin – Back in the ‘Burgh

Summer vacation’s a wonderful break from the school year.

Have to report back to school two weeks from tomorrow 8-20.

It’s difficult to see summer come to a close.  Even the weather seems tinged with fall.

Trying to keep the blog in “real time” and needed a Pittsburgh photo to post tonight.  I shot this when Steve and I went on the Ducky Tour.

The Pirates are playing the Marlins at PNC Park tomorrow night. And tickets are in hot demand these days!  GO BUCS!

This  mannequin sports PIRATES ink.  I’d never seen a tattooed mannequin before this one.   Shot through the store window at Station Square.

We Are Family

The Family Jewels in NYC

New York City- Tuesday August 21st. School starts for me in Pittsburgh on Friday so this is the LAST of the summer vacation.

My sister and I were shopping for a corded landline.  Good luck with that!  You think you have something in mind but your choices are dictated by what is produced AND what is in stock.  But that ‘s another whole story.

As we walked by this Vintage Clothing and Accessories store on West 23rd Street, The Family Jewels, we saw a young woman working on getting the padlock out of the security gate. We chatted for a minute and said we’d be back.  The vintage tablecloths caught our eye.

Meet Liz.  She graciously consented to be photographed.  She patiently explained the different ways they procure the vintage items.  And you know how I like to ask people how they get started with their collections.  She has a collection of poodle items that were gifts from friends who know she likes poodles.   She had a poodle and that’s how it all started. See her tattoo and necklace! She had the most beautiful green eyes, too. Thanks, Liz!

Giant Cyclops in the Snow on Carson Street

Family, friends and neighbors suggest pictures for me to shoot.  Tess said, “Ruthie, you have to get a photo of the giant Snow Cyclops!”  But he was over on the South Side and for 9 days I wasn’t driving anywhere.

Thursday night I left the Art Institute downtown and headed for Book Club on Josephine Street, and there he was waiting for me. Not melted yet!   Deep and dirty piles of snow so nowhere to park. Pulled into the bus stop, pushed the flashers button.   Got out of the car completely, careful of traffic on Carson Street, and felt like photographer on assignment.  Self-imposed!   Thanks Tess. Kyklops Tattoo for all your tattoo needs!

The temperature rose today so I was lucky to catch him before he started to melt
