The Snowman of Portersville – Guest Blog

Our family friend Shuey has done it again. Sent photos that create a guest blog post. He’d driven his motorcycle up from Niceville Florida.

“I rode up to be a motorcycle safety volunteer for a charity bicycle event running out of Seneca, PA. It was in support of MS research and I monitored traffic at an intersection to facilitate travel for over 300 cyclists riding a 75 mile course. Weather was decent last Saturday and I think everyone had a good time. The route was quite hilly and twisty; these were serious riders.”

Last Saturday Shuey captured the Snowman after his volunteer duty was completed.

The Snowman of Portersville

The Snowman is a one-of-a-kind, 13-foot tall custom built roadside attraction originally from New Mexico. In 2013, he found his permanent home right here in Portersville, Pennsylvania.”

“If you’ve followed the blog you might remember the top post of 2012 was Shuey’s guest post of the stunning Barred Owl

Just a few little things

Just a few little things. Making the season bright. Getting in the Spirit and counteracting the early darkness with festive lights and decorations.

How about the Santa on the lighted canopy over the front steps? Thank goodness I had a red light at the Edgetown intersection.

Exuberant Airedale and Kids Enjoy the Sunday Snow

Today’s post shot with the mirrorless Sony camera.

Henry was ecstatic it was snowing this morning.

He ran around like a rabbit.  Playing in it.  Rubbing his nose into a drift.  Snow in his beard. He posed for me on the fire pit.

I didn’t even ask him to.  I never saw a dog enjoy a snowfall as much as Henry did today.

The kids got on their snowpants and boots and slid down the front lawn and built a snowman

Monday Morning’s Trash Discovery Started the Snowy Day Captures

Two hour delay for school this morning. Teachers to report on time or as close to it as they can, safely.  I was making it!

I drove by “the find”. but when I got to the top of the intersection by school, I turned around on the snowy hill and went back and captured what I saw in the trash.

Snow on a discarded cat tree started my day.

The snow on the cat tree shapes caught my eye.

Across the street( from my second turn around) I saw these windshield wipers standing at attention.

Then on the way home from school, I thought I’d see how my favorite tree in the nearby park was looking with the snow on the branches.  Looks identical to my other photos of this particular tree in the park when it snows but I felt happy it was there.

I like it when a color photograph looks black and white

The snowman was a bonus and I even got out of my car and trudged through about 6 inches to find him with sunglsses, branches for arms and a carrot nose.  As my friend V, who had been shoveling earlier, said “The snow is perfect to make a snowman.”

How the light changes throughout the day. When I got home, The Mary statue I rescued from someone’s trash a few years ago had a halo of fresh snow.  She was painted by the puppeteer, Laura O.

Snowman Down

I haven’t written a lot about the weather on the blog.  Some blog readers live in a different hemisphere are enjoying summer temperatures and swimming.  I heard from K that it got up to 44, even if Florida.      Deb wrote that we’ve got ice on the rivers.

Storms, low temps, windchill? I know two people who had to get a new furnace.

Weather? You see it on the news.  The computer.  Experience it first hand. Shovel your driveway or your walks.  Listen for two hour delays or school closures.

Tying to not feel down like the snowman,  but hey, it’s WINTER!

Weatherman’s prediction is start at 4 AM and snow until 5 PM. Dress warmly.

My sister had 11 inches of snow in New York City.  What are you experiencing?
