Silent Sunday (a Day Early)

My friend Vincie just wrote an email to inform me that I’m a day ahead of myself and it’s only SATURDAY-not Sunday. Ooops. and I just hung up a new 2026 calendar on the kitchen wall. Guess it would help if I looked at it!

Anyway I like this photo from the archives and maybe I’ll post a second Silent Sunday tomorrow on the correct day of the week.

Soup or Gravy? No!

When you hear or read the word ladle what comes to mind?

I was downtown Pittsburgh with my friend Jen and we saw this huge LADLE! We’d never seen it before.

Yes, ladle.

But not a soup ladle and not a gravy ladle.

Did we stand next to it to give you a sense of proportion? No we did not.

This ladle could pour 105 tons of molten metal!
Going to be installed in the

Seemed a good choice for the season

The Pittsburgh Stained Glass Studio, mentioned in the exhibit panel at the History Center, was established in 1909

“As the craftsman selects the pieces of colored glass and puts them together in various combinations, he becomes more and more fascinated by the infinite variety of effects to be obtained, and to have a profound love and respect for the material that makes this possible.”

Model Trains, Vintage Streetcar Were the Favorites

Earlier this week- Heinz History Center and Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Garden.

Laura and Charlie and I enjoyed visiting a couple of Pittsburgh’s highlights while James attended a conference.

We are fortunate there is so much to do in the city.

Wednesday afternoon view from the Heinz History Center.

It’s Spring Break at Grandma’s House for three of the grandkids.

I am fortunate to live in a city with so much to offer.

Destination Moon,Driving a Cab in “Havana” and Dinosaurs

It’s been a lot of activity this weekend.

Charlie enjoyed seeing the Destination Moon exhibit at the Heinz History Center. His second visit.

We went home for lunch and later in the afternoon we went to Phipps Conservatory where he drove a cab in Cuba. He told us to not stand in front of the car while he’s driving.

Sunday it was dinosaurs at the Carnegie Museum of Natural History

Apollo 11 Command Module Hatch Window

Laura and Charlie are in from Ohio so we returned to see the Destination Moon Exhibit at the Heinz History Center.  Charlie ( 3 1/2) loves all things SPACE.

Today I captured them from the other side of the hatch, looking though.  Of course it is protected under glass/plexiglass.

You can see the other side of the hatch here

To the Moon and Back

Saturday afternoon we went down to the Heinz History Center to see the Destination Moon: The Apollo 11 Mission  Exhibit with the actual capsule from Apollo 11 and a piece of the moon.  Charlie and Michael had fun trying to use the pincers to collect “moon rocks” and they got to experience what it was like inside the capsule. The amount of interactive parts in the exhibit were much appreciated and enthusiastically enjoyed. There were books you could write your memories in about where you were when the men landed on the moon, fifty years ago.
