Oldest Free Library Building Now Museumlab

Saturday morning we went to the Children’s Museum of Pittsburgh and the new Museumlab (for older kids) is in the adjacent First Free Library.

In the original part of the museum, Charlie (4) and Maura (10) had a wonderful time together in the BACKYARD section which was open since it’s summer. When they would swing, the Interactive Metal Sculpture made clanging tones and the Bubbling Mud was great fun.

Readability and a New Look

Readability of text on background is a factor to consider when creating content in a blog post. I’ve been using the same theme with the white text on the black for a few years, liking the way the photos looked surrounded by black. I never found them hard to read but then I was the author.

These days blog readers frequently check phone screens, not a giant desktop display.

Today I heard from artist Carol Skinger after she had visited the blog via FB to check out the macarons. She included an article Why Light Text on Dark is a Bad Idea

After thinking about her message, I went to “try on” different WordPress themes and even got some great tips from the support team at WP when I couldn’t see the good old “Like” buttons or the “Subscribe” button or even the “Follow Blog” at the bottom right of the page. This theme is called SNAPS.

Thanks Carol for taking time to write. This theme works well on all sizes of devices!

I think it’s a clean look. I wish I could get the palest of gray as the background but when I tried to change it the text looked dark red. Will do some more experimenting.

Hopefully one that won’t tire your eyes as you read. I hope to find a header image that screams Pittsburgh, as I miss my Pittsburgh Light Up Night skyline view of the city header. My Year 2015 in Photos

Thank you for visiting the blog and clicking the ‘like’ button and/or leaving some good words. I appreciate your taking the time to look at the photographs. If you’ve been with me this year, you’ve already seen these images but after reading the Annual Review of my Blogging Year from WordPress, I wanted to capture 2015 myself. What I notice is I like weather, people, family and night photography.

I wish you a new year filled with good health and happiness.

Daniel Striped Tiger was the Highlight for Me

But the kids loved everything in the Children’s Museum on the North Side.

They said “Just like Lala’s porch swing” (at the entrance)

Jack and Maura rushing to get inside. We lucked out – THROWBACK THURSDAY the kids were 1/2 price admission.

Silk screening first so everything had a chance to dry in the studio before we took it home

Maura loved putting her artwork into the dryer and watching it come out the other end on the conveyor belt.

Of course Grandma had to take a shot of the installation art More Light by Dick Esterle with the beautiful ribbons and the rotunda of the Old Post Office.

Don’t bother buying toys, just tape of corrugated boxes so the kids can build. STUDIO

I found this Tower Clock n the stairwell when I checked on Jack.

Jack cranked the parachute up to the ceiling but it got trapped.

At the outdoor lemonade stand, Jack promised to buy me a new car on his promise of a good deed tag. No money for the lemonade. I promised to be a patient grandmother and tweeted it with a hashtag.
