Cleome – Spider Flowers

Cleome, (an annual that sometimes self-seeds) in a neighbor’s yard

I thought it was pretty in a neighbor’s garden as we walked to the park.

When I researched it, the reports on the smell ranged from slight skunk-like, musty, strong- like citronella – I didn’t stick my nose in the blossom so didn’t notice any scent.

Do you like the scent of lilacs?

I love the old fashioned look of lilacs in the white ironstone pitcher.

But do I like the scent of the bouquet in my house?

I like the scent of lilacs when they are outdoors on the bush, not in the confines of the house.
Reminded me of scent of Hyacinths at Easter.
Pretty intense.

Hyacinth Fragrance- yes or no?

The scent of Hyacinth smells like Easter to me. I wouldn’t want to wear it as a perfume, though.

I’d thought it a female name but looked up Hyacinth in Greek Mythology and discovered he was killed by the bounce of a discus, attributed to Zephyr blowing on it.

Hyacinth – a breath of Spring and seem easily identified, even if you were blindfolded.

Could you distinguish the difference between – a lily, narcissus and hyacinth with just your olfactory sense?

– yes or no?

Annual Crayon Peel and “Art Room Ritual” Poem

Soak the broken crayons in warm water and the papers peel right off!

About 5 years ago, my friend Lara  E. framed the poem in the newspaper, adding the crayon paper peelings around it. Last night at my final video class I scanned it and uploaded it to the blog while I waited for the screening to start.  This years crop yielded lots of crayons. The most whole crayons at the end of the year are violet ones.
