Autumn Through the Art Room Windows

Walking into the room this morning I saw the oak tree catch the morning sun, reflect it onto the art room tables.  Warm fire aglow.  A stunning welcome to the beginning of  the work day. I  dialed the combination to get the camera out of my locker.

The oak tree outside the art room window, like fire aglow.
Autumn colors at their peak, through the art room windows.

Flip-Flops Still Life

In the school parking lot.  Just sitting there lined up as if someone placed them there to slip into.

In the school parking lot. Just sitting there, a pair of flip-flops.
Whose shoes?

“It’s the Faces” V said, “the Faces…”

Just the detail of the horses today- they don't make toys like they used to. I did not throw them away. There's a book called HOW TO THINK LIKE A HORSE: The Essential Handbook for Why Horses Do What They Do by author Cherry Hill

What I Couldn’t Throw Out

Purchased in 1977 in New York City at Creative Playthings. Rubbery farm animals.  Nice to clutch and carry around when you’re almost two. I bought them for baby Mark who’s 34 now.  Maybe the paint is unsafe for the grandchildren, plus they have a hole in their stomach so whatever dirt and mold in the basement the past 20 years is living inside them.  I put them in the contractor bag to drag to the curb and I swear the cow’s eyes looked at me. I took them out. Photographed them.

Toy farm animals from my children's youth
Their faces have the loveliest expressions.

Thai Dancers on Forbes Avenue Squirrel Hill

We went to see I am Love ( I don’t recommend even if Tilda Swinton was good) and coming  towards us are two beautiful Thai dancers,  flowers falling from their hair. Right on Forbes Avenue – Dancing at Bangkok Balcony.

What I Saw on Way to Gifted & Talented Education Confratute

Looking for Signs

A few years ago I wrote a poem with this title.  And after the rainstorm I was stopped on Carson Street, traveling west. Before Station Square. The intersection under the trains. Looked up and saw this unusual sign. Seemed different from regular graffiti. Wondered about the person who got up there and wrote it and for whom did they write this short message?  It’s how I feel sometimes, driving around. Trying to remember everything I am supposed to do.  Feeling distracted.  The retaining wall is dark with rainwater.

Absent Minded
Not limited to professors. Thank goodness for red lights to capture the message.

What I Saw on the Way Home From Class Tonight

It’s been a week for baseball. I was driving from Manchester Craftsmen’s Guild on the North Side where I am editing a video portrait in a cool class.  And I saw the lights! Took the Chestnut Street Exit and over the 16th St Bridge and around back to photograph the enticing light.  Like Close Encounters of the Third Kind, a  magnificent spacecraft landed. The sky aglow.  Shot from the car at the red light. At Yankee Stadium in the game today, my cousin Lori threw out the first pitch and served as honorary bat girl for the Yankees.( click link underlined for short video clip of highlights)

Lori Baur is Honorary Bat Girl for the Yankees today. Just thinking about Baseball.
If this scene doesn't make you want to buy a ticket and see the game, I don't know what would entice you.

1984- Moment in Motherhood/Childhood

Grafenwoehr Germany. Under the kitchen sink!  One of my favorite photos of Mark, Matthew and Laura.  Everyone laughing, having  a good time. (Mark’s own children are about their ages now). How they decided to get in the cupboard I don’t know but looking at this picture always makes me happy. Scanner not working so photographed the photo.

Who makes me a mom?
Looks like an oven rack or a cooling rack in Matthew's hands. Laughing under the sink.

Is this a true green building you hear so much about in Pittsburgh?
