A Surprising Spot for a Jukebox

Seen on the tour of the USS Requin submarine at the Carnegie Science Center.

I couldn’t imagine being in a submarine underwater for 3 months.

Bobby Darin -Under the Sea is a selection.

Robot Hall of Fame at Carnegie Science Center

A couple of weeks ago Jack was here on Spring Break snd I took a photo of him with favorite robots C-3PO and R2D2.

When the family visited last week, Laura, Charlie and I went to the Carnegie Science Center. Charlie was eager to get to Roboworld to see R2-D2 and C-3PO

What Charlie saw when he went to look for R2D2 and C-3PO oh no!

Carnegie Science Center has moved the robots to the Rangos Theatre lobby here’s an article about the change.

Laura read a sign telling us where to find our favorite robots.

I knit Charlie a robot a couple years ago. Clinky. He likes robots.

Art of the Brick Exhibit is Wow!

Art of the Brick Exhibit is just…Wow! Artist Nathan Sawaya’s Work is amazing. I want to go back and take more time looking and thinking about all his creativity that went into making these artworks. And all from regular LEGO pieces.Thousands of them.

One of my favorites (with undulating lights simulating water) was The Swimmer.

Yes, that’s all constructed with LEGO. The piece count is written on each artwork’s label.

It all starts with the single brick

The kids enjoyed building with LEGO at the stations provided on the second floor

T-Shirt Under the Microscope

Last week when a couple of the grandkids were in town we visited this exhibit. Here’s Maura at the Carnegie Science Center.

Pittsburgh River Rescue

Fortunately it’s a timed challenge practice drill and not a real rescue situation on the Ohio River yesterday. These men and women do important and difficult work.

I’d taken two grandkids to the Carnegie Science Center and we had just toured the submarine docked behind the Center.

Watching the diver dive into the river while tethered to the rope as it unfurled, was something to see.  Another diver waited on deck, ready to help if diver one got into trouble.

You have to be a paramedic first before any further training can begin. The instructor was patient and answered all Jack’s questions.

“USS Requin, a Tench-class submarine, was the only ship of the United States Navy to be named after the requin, French for shark. Since 1990 it has been a museum ship at The Carnegie Science Center in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania”. Wikipedia

Weekly Photo Challenge: Extra, Extra

This week’s challenge of Extra, Extra is defined on WordPress

“A beautiful photo is one thing, but a photo with an unexpected detail has personality and pop. This week, share a photo that has a little something extra. writes Michelle W…Draw us in with a humorous detail”

Last night at the Point, where the Allegheny River and the Monongahela come together to form the Ohio, I saw this group of young people sitting at the edge.
