Pedestrians on Cell Phones in NYC

Downright dangerous.

From my archives March 2013

I remember taking these photos as my sister and I walked down Fifth Avenue. Photographed with a Canon 5D.   I shot 188 images in about 45 minutes, Here are a few. Too many I know but it was hard to choose.

Pedestrians on cell phones can get distracted  and crossing the street while staring at your screen is risky.  These pedestrians were easy to photograph cause they weren’t paying attention to me. Well, maybe one or two noticed.

You could write a phone conversation dialogue for the images.

Pedestrian (s)

Pedestrian.

or in this post- Pedestrians.

I’m going with definition one

noun a person walking along a road or in a developed area.
  1. synonyms: walker, person on foot;

    foot traffic

Krista Stevens at WordPress created the photo challenge this week.

I went to scan my archives for something that stood out and found plenty of pedestrians in them.

Cars in our city aren’t too courteous to pedestrians.  There are parts of the world where you step into the crosswalk and the cars stop immediately allowing pedestrians to cross.  IMG_0566Zagreb

Sea Turtle Tracks- it’s nesting season!

St.George Island, Florida.

The enormous sea turtles crawl out of the water at night and make their way over the sand to dig a hole and lay their eggs. Keep your porch lights off so the baby turtles  aren’t attracted to the lights and travel in the wrong direction.IMG_2477 2 If you see an actual sea turtle, you shouldn’t get closer than fifty feet. Their nests are called a clutch.

You can see the tracks- their shell making the flat middle and the side tracks from their flippers.    Sea Turtles

IMG_2483IMG_2452St. George Island Sea Turtlers are volunteers who make  the rounds at dawn, checking turtle activity. Marking the nests so people don’t disturb them. Seaturtle.org says

“St. George Island is one of three barrier islands near the mouth of the Apalachicola River. It often hosts the largest nesting population of Loggerhead Turtles in the northern Gulf of Mexico.”

Holiday travel at peak? Not yet.

That will be this coming Wednesday.

But when the trains for Boston were announced (as I stood under the departure boards) I thought I might get run over by the rush of humanity.

Getting to their platform, getting to their train home. Rush rush rush.

Weekly Photo Challenge: Extra, Extra

This week’s challenge of Extra, Extra is defined on WordPress

“A beautiful photo is one thing, but a photo with an unexpected detail has personality and pop. This week, share a photo that has a little something extra. writes Michelle W…Draw us in with a humorous detail”

Last night at the Point, where the Allegheny River and the Monongahela come together to form the Ohio, I saw this group of young people sitting at the edge.

Ohio State Fair – Columbus Ohio

Today’s post is primarily people.  A few animals. Or people and animals.  The food highlights will be a separate post.  Stay tuned for a Deep Fried Buckeye.  No, I didn’t eat it but someone let me photograph theirs.

I accompanied two moms and seven children!  We had a wonderful afternoon.   Perfect summer day.  Last year our visit to the fair was cut short by a severe thunderstorm.  If you are new to the blog you can check it out here
