Jigsaw Puzzle Season

Jigsaw puzzles anyone? Yes or no?

if yes, what’s your method? Borders first? Similar colors? Solitary or communal effort?

Preferred number of pieces? Subject?

Anyone do a puzzle without looking at or knowing what the picture is?

In the mid 70’s I had a circular puzzle of a pizza with toppings.   I glued it together and tacked it on the kitchen door when we lived in Ft. Knox Kentucky.  Wish I had a photo of my colorful interior decoration in government quarters.
I’ve had a couple of puzzles made from my photographs and given them as gifts.

Relaxing activity? Stress reliever? Here’s the HIstory if you’re interested.

Loonies and Toonies -Canadian Dollar Store

There were two messages from my friend Joanne but I was so excited about the beach glass yarn she sent a surprise a gift, I missed the second.

Here’s what she said –

“Where else would the dollar store be the Loonies & Toonies Store? Canada has one dollar coins (Loonies) and two dollar coins (Toonies). No paper ones or twos.

And the puzzle is set up in a gift/coffee shop where guests are invited to sit a while and puzzle.”

Mid-Winter Break

Actually we are not even a month into true winter but wanted to tell you the blog will be on mid-winter break for the next week. Will miss you and will catch up with you upon my return.  

  
Hope the Puzzle People can find a replacement piece for this 1976 USA puzzle. I value New York.

Fellow Blogger’s Comment Spurs Action

It was Janet of Sustainabilitea blog, ( This,that and the other  thing/ Looking at life through writing and photography) who wrote in a comment  “these photos would make great puzzles”.

She was right.  Thanks, Janet, for the super idea.  (original post of the doll collection was just January 6th).

I went down the hill to give my friend the early birthday present and it was a cool surprise. Waiting until the actual birthday on the 29th was too long.  Barb was really thrilled with the origianl idea and I told her how a fellow blogger suggested making the photo into a puzzle.  Her husband thought the photo below would make a cool document of the idea come to fruition.

Here my friend Barb’s  husband Rich holds up the puzzle I ordered from the photo of her doll collection.

It came in a lovely tin. Ravensburger USA in New Hampshire did a super job.

How much fun it would be to photograph collections to be made into jigsaw puzzles.

The Village of Rockton Illinois Afternoon

Another Spring Break post-

Mary and I drove from Durand, Illinois (our mother’s hometown and the town where our parents were married in 1939)

to Rockton, Illinois in Winnebago County.

We browsed in Main Street Antiques Mall and Mary bought a couple of handkerchiefs.  There were two vintage jukeboxes playing records as we enjoyed looking at all the vintage items.

What a beautiful library!  The Talcott Free Library is celebrating 125 years this year.

Wedding Cake Ice Cream was the recommended flavor at the Dairyhäus, according to a guidebook Mary had read in NYC.

The Dairyhäus was located right next to the library and opened at 3 PM.

I sampled several flavors but decided on the Peter Rabbit which was a carrot cake flavor. Mary had the Toffee Fudge.  Ice Cream season had just started.  One employee who has worked NINE seasons at the Dairyhäus created the counted cross stitch Care Bears sampler.

Brent MurrayOwner Brent Murray shows off an ice cream cake his wife had just put together in the back.  Brent really enjoys his work!  He said mother had purchased the ice cream store in 1994 and he has been there ever since. He’s enthusiastic about his product and with good reason.
