Spoonbridge and Cherry Sculpture Thanks to Maura

Granddaughter Maura called from Minneapolis today to share what she was looking at while she was on vacation- Spoonbridge and Cherry

by artists Claes Oldenburg and his wife Coosje van Bruggen.

Earlier this year Maura did a school report on Oldenburg for Art Class and we had looked at some of Oldenburg’s public art sculpture online and discussed locations where they could be viewed.

And here she was today, getting the chance to experience this huge sculpture in person. Minneapolis Sculpture Garden is adjacent to the Walker Art Center

“The spoon itself weighs 5,800 pounds and the cherry, another 1,200 pounds. The cherry’s stem also acts as a fountain which sprays into the bowl of the spoon and off into the pond beneath”

It was very exciting to get Maura’s Face Time call and to see it at the same time as she was looking right at it.

And then she sent two pictures. I took the third one as a screen shot as we were on the call.

Here’s an article about this iconic and “quirky Landmark”

Yes. It’s a fountain
Thanks for calling from Walker Art center to share the Spoonbridge and Cherry Sculpture

The kids lined up to throw them in the hoops on the ground, then picked up the bits of rubber for the trash.

Clancy the Mini Golden Doodle at Work

Clancytheminigoldendoodle is a Pittsburgh based therapy dog and he has an Instagram account.

He came to summer day camp today to meet all the kids.

He was so patient and soft and cuddly.

He goes to nursing homes, colleges and schools, too. Everyone loves to meet Clancy.

My First Lace Knitting Project

IMG_4864.jpg

Fiberchats host Irina Shaar has released her first pattern Sweet Surrender Wrap. (available on Ravelry)

If you click on the link you will be transported to her Youtube channel . If you click on her name you can follow her on Instagram.

“Fiberchats on YouTube is a welcoming space for all fiber enthusiasts, where you can watch informal interviews with fiber artists from different parts of the world or learn some knitting tips and tricks.”

Irina says this is a good pattern to learn lace knitting. You know I’ve been knitting for decades but haven’t knit lace yet.

So here’s the plan. I’m going to learn to knit lace by making this gorgeous lacy wrap and it will be my first lace knitting project .  Today I went to McWalker Yarns in Millville PA and purchased the yarn with the help of shop owner Amy McCall .  In fact, I am about to cast on the Juniper Moon Findley yarn Curacao Colorway and the mohair is Kidsilk Haze Bill Colorway by Rowan. Let’s see how I fare with this challenge.  I’ve been following Knitphen knitting his Sweet Surrender Wrap in the UK and I thought I could do the same here in Pittsburgh.

About the Sweet Surrender Wrap pattern “This simple and elegant wrap combines two yarns: lace weight merino and kid silk mohair. You can use the same color or two contrasting colors. The wrap can be worn with jeans or an evening gown.
The pattern would be perfect if you want to learn knitting lace. The pattern has both charted and written instructions.
It has been professionally tech edited and tested.”  Irina Shaa

Tuesday am update:

*Cast on.

*Established on the needles.

*Knit fourteen rows.

*Stay tuned.

Definitely have to pay attention where you are in the pattern which hopefully will become easier in time. And yes it’s charted and written out instructions, just as she says .

Thank you Patty for this wonderful yarn holder. Your husband is a true craftsman.

Avocado Toast

Ripe avocado scooped out of the shell, mashed lightly with a fork. Spread on slices of well toasted bread . Yes, there are recipes for additions to the mixture or sprinkles of spice but we kept it simple. Delicious.

Are you a fan of avocado toast?
