Married 28 January 1904. Durand, Illinois. My great Aunt May B. Rowley (b.1883-d.1972) and her husband Ralph Alson Potter (b. 1882-d.1971). My grandmother Charlotte’s sister.
I visited Uncle Ralph and Aunt May’s home in Durand when I was a kid. I remember I didn’t understand the words on a plaque over his garage- Dun Workin’ .
They had one son Melburn Clark Potter. b.1906-d. 1940

A valentine collage of some of the couples I’ve had the privilege to photograph on their special days, capturing them loving one another.
Thursday afternoon, my friend Barbara showed me a pretty pillow she had made at Alterations Express. She used fabric from her mother. her grandmother’s handmade lace and her special pillow.
When I saw the fabric I said,”Oh, my friend Joanne gave me a knitting bag made of something similar and it’s French and has pastoral scenes.” but I couldn’t remember the term and had to look it up-

Barbara went and got a box with beautiful pieces of lace, created by her grandmother, Josephine Cinquegranni DiGalbo (b. 1890) Notice the blue edge on the lace.
I looked at the lace with admiration. Such expert craftsmanship and beauty. I asked Barbara is she had a photograph of her grandmother.

Her grandmother’s town of origin was Castlebuono, Sicily. The photograph was taken on Butler Street in Lawrenceville, a Pittsburgh neighborhood.
And here is a photo of their daughter, Mary Ann, Barbara’s mother. I had the pleasure of knowing her and remember her for her kindness to my children.

Tons of signage in the archives but you don’t get many letters in the mailbox today.
Found an envelope of letters that our Aunt Rhea gave to us when she moved out of her home.
Letters.
Even some I’d written when we lived in Germany. Photographs inside letters. Letters from my father and mother and sister. Thank you notes from my own children when they were small.
I have other letters saved, tied with ribbon. My sister wrote to me in Germany for three years. And I wrote back. She saved my letters, too. My friend Erica transcribed all the letters and I have them typed in a desk downstairs.
My Dad had a photo of their wedding in one of the letters. A nice find.
A beautiful day, filled with love and joy. Surrounded by family and friends, Vicky and Justin exchanged vows at St. Sebastian’s. Almost a decade of loving one another and now they are married. The rain held off and the sun shone down upon them! It is fun to be a guest AND the photographer. They gave me their gracious permission to put up a wedding photo for today’s post. She wore her mother’s gown which she had altered. Just a lovely day of being together and celebrating their marriage. xxooxx I wish them every happiness, always! The food was delicious(mushroom risotto, grouper stuffed with spinach, stuffed eggplant, roast zucchini and yellow squash and onion medley and the cookie table another post for another day.
